"So, how much does he know?" He asks bluntly. He was never one for beating around the bush.
"Right to the chase, got it. He knows about everything. Except for Luka, but I'm not ready to tell him yet. And before you get mad, let me explain why he knows." I busy myself by putting the popcorn kernels in the pot, but in reality I'm making sure both Tom and Lewis are still watching the movie.
"I'm not mad," He says, but his muscles are tense and he's standing in a defensive stance.
"A few weeks ago, when Tom and I had arrived back at the hotel room, we found a letter addressed to him. Inside, was a note saying 'I'm watching you. Ms. Larson is pretty, isn't she?' along with a dozen photos of me and Tom. I tried to keep it together but I ended up breaking down later that night, and I explained it all to Tom. I'm sorry, I know it wasn't my place to tell him all of this." I ramble.
"Are you done?"
"Yes."
The second that word comes out of my mouth James envelopes me in a hug, his 6'1 figure towering over me so I have to reach up to hug him back.
"What was that for?" I ask as I pull away.
"First of all, I'm not mad. I understand why you told him. Second, I'm so sorry you had to go through that alone, I wish I was there for you,"
"I wasn't alone. I had Tom," I say simply.
"Speaking of him, he's a good choice. Hes good for you, you light up around him,"
"James, what do you mean 'good choice'?"
"Oops, popcorn is ready," He says, pointing to the pot where the popcorn is now making steady popping noises, and makes a haste exit to the living room.
What the fuck is he talking about?
"Popcorn!" I sing out and all three heads turn towards me as the smell of butter hovers in the air.
The movie is a blast and both Lewis and James, having watched this movie so many times they know it by heart, occasionally quote their favorite lines.
"My first day as a woman and I am already having hot flashes." James quotes and we all break into laughter, tears glistening in our eyes.
During the middle of the movie I excuse myself and Tom, and we go downstairs to move our laundry to the drier.
When the credits roll, Tom lets us know he has to get back, and James calls him over to ask him something before he leaves.
I head down stairs to take out both loads of laundry from the dryer and start my way back up the stairs.
As I push the door open I overhear a bit of their conversation.
"Treat her well," James says, and then lowers his voice when he sees I've walked back in.
I don't catch any more snippets in their hushed discussion other than 'take care of her for me, alright?'. Tom nods and claps James on the shoulder, then announces our leave.
"Bye you guys! I'll call you tomorrow, James. Bye Lewis, love you both!" I call out before Tom and I close the door and make our way to Benedict who is waiting downstairs.
Again, Tom helps me load the laundry into the trunk and we drive off back to the hotel.
When we get back into the hotel rooms I start folding my laundry in silence, my mind busy in thought. Tom notices that I've been folding and refolding the same shirt for the past 2 minutes and decides to break the silence.
