The wind whips Loverboy's hair, pulling thin ribbons of red from his ponytail. The breeze sends ripples across the water, ruining his reflection.

It seems that everywhere in the city, storm clouds gather, intent on destruction. They send wave after wave of pain, drowning his heart. But here, by the river, it is safe. There is no one around. He has found a lifeboat in the story seas.

Yet, still, the ghosts whisper. How easy would it be? To jump in, to feel the cold embrace of the river, to let the icy fingers wrap around his neck. To let the water fill his lungs and ease the pain.

No, Loverboy does not fear death. He welcomes it.

He used to be scared of it. It was the black, hulking monster that followed him around. His demon. But now he knows better. Hell is not a pit of fire, if heat.
No, He'll is the ice river bottom. Hell is the cold embrace of ice and snow.

The river calls to Loverboy, tempting his mind, pulling his heart. Would they miss him, if he gave into the water?

No. They are better off without him. Again and again, the river tempts him. It is a mother, calling her child child in for dinner. It is safety. It is relief.

How easy would it be, if he could just let go? Let go of the pain, the suffering, the memories that haunt his dreams. The whispers of ghosts that beckon him at night. The honey white fingers that point to him, that blame him. But they are right.

Loverboy is not a person. Loverboy is not a friend. Loverboy is a demon, clothed in snow, bathed in winter, armed with ice.

And Loverboy must pay.

Come home. You will be safe. You will be loved. You will become yourself.

Loverboy believes the river. She would not lie to the brown haired demon, to her son.

The light will shrivel you, will break your soul. You are not a star, you are not a sun. You are the moon, the night, the cold embrace of death. Why deny it?

No, Loverboy knows what he is. He will not hide in the light anymore.

He is coming home.

But, Loverboy stops.

He will not give in today.

Soon. He promises. Soon.

And the ghost of a boy walks away.
