My home looked a lot different then I was used to.
As I walked off the hovercraft, a man with the last name Homes greeted us. My stomach sank as I noticed parts of buildings were missing. It was almost unrecognizable because of how destroyed everything was. My home.
A bomb echoed behind us. I gasped and ducked as I turned around in shock. I really wasn't expecting anything like this, my home is no longer my home.
"Don't worry, it's just how the loyalists say good morning," Homes reassured us with a smirk. I held in a scowl as he smirked about the bombs in my district. "Something wrong?" I saw he was looking at me.
"You're talking about my home with that smirk," I told him bitterly. He raised his eyebrows and looked at Katniss.
"This is Kat. She was in the games with me," She explained. Homes looked at me and then back at Katniss.
"I do recognize you - I didn't know this place was your home." I pursed my lips as he turned around. Roland and I exchanged looks as we fell to the back of the group.
"Doesn't look like home anymore does it?" He noticed. I sighed as we walked through the dust collection. Shots were going off in the distance.
As we walked towards the nut, it grew in size. I've never been this close to this place before in all honesty. I know my way around it well, but not inside. None of my family has stepped inside of it ever.
"We're going to have to ask some of you to stay out," A voice said. My head popped up as I heard an unfamiliar voice. "We lost half of our troops from a bombing a couple of days ago. Are there any volunteers?"
My hand shot up and I stepped away from the group. I didn't want to be in a boring meeting anyway. The unfamiliar man handed me a radio, and I felt a presence behind me. The man handed Roland a radio too. I held in an eye roll, of course he would volunteer to stay back.
"We'll radio you if we need to stay in touch," The man said. I turned on my heel and started to take off in my home.
"Kat." I turned around to see Katniss hanging out behind the group. Haymitch and Boggs waited for her at the entrance. "Be careful out there." I chuckled.
"You wouldn't be scared, would you?" I asked. She smiled.
"Seriously. Don't be stupid."
"I'll see you soon," I reassured her.
"Take good care of her Roland." We both tuned on our heels again and started to walk around the grand white building. As we came around the corner I took a shaky breath - and what I saw shocked me.
Everything, and I mean everything was destroyed.
I chewed on my lip as I stepped through what looked like dust and debris from the buildings that have collapsed.
"I was expecting nostalgia, not - this," I told him softly. Roland looked like he was just as shocked as I was. "Do you think our houses are gone too?"
We started to walk towards his house. Some of the frames of the houses that were built were still intact. I don't know if that makes it better or worse. A group of soldiers were walking through the cleared out walkway. They nodded at us as they saw we had radios. I kept my head low after that.
"Kat?" A voice asked. I tilted my head and turned around. A smile broke on my face.
"Dolan." His smile grew as he walked over and gave me a hug. "What are you doing here?" The resemblance of Marvel still shocked me to this day. It was like a breath of fresh air around here to see him.
