Memories Bring Back You

Chapter 2

Jackson's POV
I'm proud of Mer. If this was her five years ago, she wouldn't have done anything. Now, I have to tell Dr. Shepherd about what happened 4 years ago.

"Dr. Shepherd, do you have a second?"
"Yes."
"It's important and I need to say it in private."
"About?"
"Meredith."

I saw Derek's face drain any and all color.
"Come with me."
We went to a supply closet and I said,
"Meredith was in an accident a few years back."
"What kind of accident?"
"She umm. Almost killed her self."
"Oh."

My eyes were tearing up.
"Yeah."
"Thanks for telling me."
"Well, tomorrow is the 4 year anniversary of the accident. And Dr. Hunt was her doctor when it happened..."
"Oh. Wow."
"So could you keep an eye on her at home?"
"Of course."

I headed to the pit because I had no surgeries and all of a sudden, she comes through the doors. Ellis fricken Grey is here. Instead of helping, I went to find Meredith. When I found her, she was walking towards the pit.
"Mer. Don't go in there."
"Why?"
"Just. Be careful."

I watched Mer walk into the ER. She immediately stopped when she saw her mother.
"MEREDITH! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU, LEAVE ME ALONE WHILE IM WORKING. YOU ARE SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT. CANT FOLLOW SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS. STOP TOUCHING ME!"

I was immediately by Mer's side and dragged her out. She looked frozen. She didn't even shed a tear.

She went into an on call room.
Beep beep beep
Ellis Grey 911.
I hated to leave her.
I paged Derek so he could sit with her while I go to the pit again.

Meredith's POV
My mother. My mother is here. Is she sick?
"MEREDITH! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU, LEAVE ME ALONE WHILE IM WORKING. YOU ARE SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT. CANT FOLLOW SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS. STOP TOUCHING ME!"

I couldn't move. Everything went silent around me. I felt Jackson pull me out. But I couldn't see anything. My brain just kept playing a conversation I had with her 6 years ago.

"Meredith Grey! You went out with a boy!? No wonder. You are always finding a way to disappoint me. I shouldn't have agreed with Thatcher to keep you."

"I'm sorry Ellis! At least I know when to close my legs!"

"I do too. And I am your mother! Treat me with respect!"

"I will when you can get your head out of your ass and stop putting others down! And no you don't. You are screwing Richard when he's MARRIED! And for the record, it was not a date, I went to after school. And you are NOT my mother. You are far from it!"

"You are grounded!"
"Fine with me! It's not like you would know! You are either screwing your little mid- life crisis, or you are working!"

End of flashback.
"Meredith. Meredith!"
"Huh? What? Oh. Hi Derek."
"Are you ok?"
"I'm fine."
"Stop saying that. You aren't fine."
"No really. I am. I've done this before. I get over it. Eventually."
"And you kill yourself doing it. Mer, I can't lose you. Please talk to me."
"I'm fine Der. I promise."
"I don't want to believe you."
"I know. But please, are you the only other person that knows?"
"Yeah."
"Ok. Let's keep it that way."
"I love you."
"I love you."

I went to finish some charts, check my patients,  change and go home. I couldn't stop replaying the same things in my head.

"You are ordinary."
"You are a disappointment."
"You are annoying."
"Leave me alone."

Who would do that to their own kid?
I pull into my driveway. Jackson's car is here. Along with George and Izzy's cars. They live with me and Derek. I don't know if George and Izzy know. But I have a feeling, this will be a long night.
