Sameal's POV
An instant death
Hayl was practically hauling Lilith and I up the steep concrete staircase appearing evermore powerful and determined with every stride and I couldn't help but share his resolve too; for I understood what had happened back there; recognized the danger the nun's had inflicted upon our trio.
I couldn't help but feel deep regret over leaving the ancient manor when we had; if only Hayl had allowed us to stay longer; perhaps then we would have had more time to keep Lilith safely hidden a little while longer. Despite my regret I did not hold Hayl to blame for our current situation; he could not have foreseen the nun's interference; not when he was so focused on our innocuous escape.
However much regret I felt over the situation which the nun's had placed us in, I could not afford to surplus time dwelling because it was now even more imperative that we flee from the current scene quickly; before they came; for us; for Lilith.
I was still uniformed about what they wanted with Lilith, about what we wanted with her. But I recognised the grave importance of maintaining her safety. We had risked so much rescuing her from the icy inferno, we could not fall so soon after our great achievement; could not allow our triumphant to go to waste, especially not so soon.
But most importantly we could not allow any harm to come to her.
From the instant I had set eyes on her frozen stance surrounded by nothing but watery coldness, I had become overcome with such an overwhelming desire to protect her. Back then I did not understand the desire; even now I still did not; only now the desire seemed more plausible, now that I had spent time with her, now that I had become somewhat emotionally involved with her. Before she had merely been the mystery girl I had risked my life for. But now the prospect of risking my life for her did not seem in anyway absurd, instead it felt almost natural, yet I could not apprehend why it felt that way.
Nevertheless it was not necessary that I understood anything more right now, other than my need to protect her; so as I forced myself to match Hayl's strides there was no doubt in my mind that no matter what happened next, I would protect her.
I was so focused on my firm resolve that I neglected to notice the significance change in Hayl's expression; missing the moment when his determination was replaced with irrational illogical ideals. Usually I valued Hayl's wisdom and foreseeing as a vast advantage but now I couldn't help but question his sanity and reasoning as he voiced his new plan.
"Now listen up you two, the nun's alerted Ardiel and the others of our current location and they're coming, in fact they will be here any second; now if we want to escape, You young Lilith need to stay right here, whilst Sameal and I go... go...over there." he finished in almost in a stutter gesturing down the road.
I gawked at him in sheer shock and disbelief; surely he wasn't serious about this. How could he even contemplate leaving Lilith alone during such dangerous circumstances?
Before I could protest or even question his unbelievable rash plan, he clutched my shoulders firmly looking directly into my eyes as he demanded "You Sameal will follow me!"
So that it what I did.
I did not know why I obliged to his orders because I knew my heart rejected every single step I took away from Lilith. But it was as if I had no control over my own actions. It was as if Hayl was controlling my actions; controlling me like a puppet on strings.
I had spent many months with Hayl, before we had rescued Lilith and as much as his dull monotonous mood made me tiresome of his company, I had a lot of respect and admiration for him. Yet at this very moment I wished him an instant painful death.
