Sameal's POV

-Gifts-

In the foyer I lounged lazily on the brown shabby sofa while I watched Hayl with a mixture of fascination and boredom as he paced back and forth in front of the blazing coal fire place; an act he repeated routinely numerous times a day.

His fingers twitched fast like pincers while he muttered foreign words that I could not hear nor understand as his eyes appeared blank and vacant; seeing things that were far away from the dingy deserted hotel - which we had occupied for the last week.

As I watched his magic at work I couldn't help but feel a strong sense of respect for Hayl and the valuable supernatural gifts he still possessed; regrettably much of my own gifts were extremely inadequate - now that we were on the other side.

My mind full of self-pitying thoughts I wondered what value I was to Hayl and why he was so insistent that I had such an important part to play in The Greater Good.  I didn't completely understand what he meant by this; or what my role actually was. So far all I had done to help was to rescue Lilith from the icy inferno.  Her role in this was even more of a mystery to me than my own was - particularly because I was still in the dark about her gifts.

However my wallowing and curiosity was cast aside when Hayl abruptly halted his pacing with a loud groan; just seconds before a frantic Salisa burst through the heavy oak doors leaving them ajar. Focusing my attention towards her I noticed her eyes were alight with fury and that one of her rosy cheeks were smeared with dark burgundy blood from which it appeared she had wiped from beneath her nose.

"Look what the little BRAT did to ME!" She shrieked as she waved her arms hysterically at a bored and annoyed looking Hayl.

"If you're referring to Lilith, she's hardly a brat; she's not much younger than you or I." I stated automatically defending Lilith which made Salisa turn towards me with a deadly glare before going hysterical at me also.

"THAT is hardly the point, the point is I go to help the little brat and look how she thanks ME!" she screeched dramatically pointing to her nose, which I stared at mystified; wondering how on earth her nose bleed was connected to Lilith.

Hayl took careful casual steps toward her as he asked firmly "But you didn't really go to help her did you Salisa?"

"Of course I went to help her, just like you asked me to." Listening to her words I couldn't help but notice how her voice peculiarly broke at the end of her sentence.

Before I could comprehend the reason for her sudden nervousness Hayl suddenly reached his hand towards her, clasping his aging hand around her neck like a vice as he bellowed in her face "But you DIDN'T HELP her like I ORDERED you to- instead you hurt HER and threatened HER and disobeyed ME!"

Salisa was physically shaking with fear as she stared at him choking out "It won't happen again."

Dispassionate about her response Hayl swiftly flung her towards the oak doors like a rag doll, making her crash harshly against the solid wooden panels; then menacingly walking over to her he bent down placed his hands on either side of her head declaring venomously "Your right it won't happen again because I don't have the patience for jealous disobedient little girls."

Aware of what Hayl was about to do I was completely torn about how I should react. I didn't particularly like Salisa and was disgusted that she had hurt Lilith; and every fibre of me wanted to check she was ok - but I wasn't sure if I could live with myself if I allowed Hayl to do what he was about to.
