Sameal POV
Control
I glowered at Hayl with a mixture of disgust and contempt, feeling betrayed and violated. How could the man I held so much trust and respect for control me in such an impertinent way? He had taken away my free will, forcing me to act against my nature, compelling me to obey his orders. I was uncertain as to how he had done such a thing but I was certain of the fact, certain that he was still governing me in some way because despite my determination to inflict pain upon him I was forced to remain rigidly livid.
I could feel my eyes burn with anger as I struggled to remove my arms from my sides, to edge closer to the man I now felt such extreme hatred for, the man that leant lazily against the dirty stone wall at the end on the narrow alley way in which he had lead me, looking old and exhausted. His body hunched forward as he puffed deeply assessing me with an odd expression that I couldn’t quite fathom because it seemed one of disappointment or regret.
As I gauged his defeated stance, trying to make sense of his strange expression I didn’t feel any less angry, in fact I felt substantially more violated by the weak looking man before me. I had always seen Hayl as a powerful and gifted man but the man before me was nothing more than a controlling bully. As I judged him with new insight my arms shuddered with anger as the continued to fight against the invisible force of his control.
I fisted my hands forcefully into balls seething through gritted teeth “Will you quit it already; I’m not your blasted puppet Hayl!”
He sighed gruffly before stating “Later, first you need to listen, need to understand why.”
“Why? What makes you think I care why! You crossed the line Hayl, you’re still crossing the line, just quit it already and give me back my free will or I swear –”
“Don’t you dare disrespect me Sameal! I had to do it; it was the only way you would have left Lilith behind!”
At the sound of her name I felt an instant ache in my heart and my anger was instantly replaced with guilt, how could I have been so consumed with fury that I had forgotten all about her and the danger she was in. I unconsciously tried to shift my weight away from Hayl, in the direction we had walked, unhappy to find that Hayl was still holding me frozen by invisible restraints.
“Hayl don’t do this, we have to help her!”
“Being here is helping her Sameal! Ardiel and the others cannot know of our involvement.”
“Oh great so we’re chucking her into the deep end to save our own skins, just great, you’re a coward you know that H-” before I could complete my scalding I was propelled through the air backwards, my back smashing painfully against the concrete wall.
I slowly slid onto my knees only to have my chin jerked upwards so that I could stare directly into Hayl’s angry indigo eyes as he spat maliciously “Do not disrespect me Sameal!”
He glared at me intently for a few seconds before turning his attention towards the sky, finally lifting his compulsion upon me, causing my rigid body to flop to the dirty ground; My face crashed harshly against the concrete, my nose cracking agonisingly at the solid contact. I rolled over on my back groaning in pain, as I instinctively touched my fingers against my nose which was now moist and broken. Clamping my eyes shut and gnashing my teeth firmly together I forced my bone back into position, ignoring the excruciating pain the action caused.
Breathing heavily I opened my eyes and began to mimic Hayl by gazing up at the dull clear sky, trying to distract myself from the intense agony that now consumed me. The sky was empty and grey with seamless clouds that threatened rain, the sight was beyond monotonous. I glanced briefly at Hayl curious to what he found so interesting about the dull horizon, following his gaze towards the left of the vast greyness where a mass of peculiar white objects rained slowly from the seamless clouds.
Uncertain whether it was safe to speak I asked hesitantly “What is that?”
“Feathers Sameal, feathers; which means that Ardieal and the others have left.” He stated enthusiastically before offering out his hand which I was tempted to refuse, but thought better of it so allowed him to hull me up off the painfully solid ground.
