Lilith's POV
Scythe's and Prayer's
I nuzzled sleepily into Samuel's chest, adoring the sweet scent of his earthy aftershave and the tenderness of his caring embrace; there was nowhere else I would have rather been - right now or ever.
Despite my contentment with our intimacy, the comfort was not enough to keep my dark dreams away; dreams plagued with darkness and fear and threats. I wanted to escape the horrific images that clouded these dreams; I tried to run from them but a white Scythe would fly towards me every turn I made, forcing me to flee once more. Deep down a small part of my mind knew that the illusions I saw weren't real, that the Scythe couldn't actually hurt me but the awareness was not enough to vanquish the intense terror the dreams evoked within me.
I battled desperately with my mind to rescue myself, to wake from the nightmare attacks, but I was trapped in these dark dreams. Fear and dread coursed through my veins, made worse by the mystery of who my attacker was, of whose invisible hand tried to slice me with the sharp shiny white Scythe that was as clean and pristine as it was dangerous.
After what seemed like forever, thankfully I was rescued or rather woken from the dreadful terrors by the odd sensation of falling. I opened my eyes drowsily, curiosity seeping through my consciousness as I registered myself in Hayl's arms on a crowded train. I wondered when and why we were here, why we had left the car, but not even my deep curiosity could mask the sensitivity I felt in Hayl's arms. The awkward way he cradled my body in a fatherly fashion made me so uncomfortable and so deeply embarrassed that I was lost for words.
Attempting to mask my embarrassment and feed my curiosity I forced my eyes to travel around my surrounding assessing the range of people that shared our crowded carriage. There was an assortment of people, dressed in various different manners; I drank in their appearance's wondering vaguely how I appeared to them too.
Hayl's stance suddenly stiffened and he cradled me awkwardly more tightly in his aging arms as he attempted to weave us both through the crowd of people crammed in our carriage. I tried to ignore the odd stares and irritated huffs that were directed at us, my eyes widening as one man shot crude words at us as we passed by, but no sooner had the curses left the man's dirty chapped lips did the carriage doors fly open and Hayl cradled me even tighter as he leaped from the carriage with Sameal following closely at his heels.
I heard the thud of their feet make contact with the concrete platform ground, followed instantly by the click of the carriage doors shutting behind us. Arrogated complaints echoed around the platform as people shoved us aside to bang their fists angrily at the carriage doors that seemed to be sealed permanently shut. The commotion was loud and heated but not loud enough to mask the frantic prayers that came from two elderly nuns seated on the train.
"Lord in Heaven above, protect your earth children from the Demon's outside our carriage, protect the world from their sins, deliver the world from their evil, Hallowed be thy name."
As I listened to their plea's I felt oddly light headed and dizzy, yet somewhat content. I felt Hayl's legs wobble slightly, making him sway almost drunkenly causing me to slip slowly from his grip; I landed shakily on the ground, struggling to regain my balance upright.
Seconds of dizzying contentment ticked by before the train raced away along the oil adorn track, making a loud buzzing noise that drowned out every other and the dizziness was replaced by sudden clarity.
Hayl's POV
Willpower
If I had my way senseless nuns guided by their blind faith would be extinct, every blasted last one of them!
They prayed for protection from evil with no idea of how their prayers could damn us all.
How dare they be so blinded by their imprudent religious beliefs?
They infuriated me to my very core!
I was furious with Salisa's betrayal but I had half expected it. I had been forced to allow her pardon knowing I would regret it. But I was entirely unprepared for the two blasted elderly sisters that had now made our escape all the more impossible that it already was.
The chase I knew was coming had now begun and they knew exactly where we were and I knew that we had to be anywhere but here right now; knew that I had to protect them.
I replaced my intense aggravation with willpower and purpose as I grabbed both Lilith and Sameal by the arm and steered them up the filthy steps, resisting the urge to drag them.
I steeled a glance at Lilith's scared expression as she struggled to move her frail legs in similar strides to my own, then at Sameal whose face was coloured with determination and it was at that moment that I remembered that they could both in fact protect themselves.
