"Why the long face?" Namjoon silently stared at the table, ignoring his friend's question. He contemplates on whether he should go on with his plan or not, if he should say it or not.
Jimin settles down on the chair in front of him, "Hey, you called me here," he said and leaned forward. "What's up?"
Namjoon finally lifts his head up to look at him. He sadly smiles, "Nothing," he answered. "Well, it can't be nothing if you told me to meet you." Jimin calmly stated, being the good friend he is.
Namjoon's shoulders slumps and he hunches down, sighing in frustration. "You're right, it isn't nothing." he mumbled. Jimin patiently waits for him to continue and smiles at him.
"I'm planning to break up with her.." Jimin's smile faltered, "But I just.. I can't bring myself to say it." he confessed, while Namjoon glared at his hands, Jimin tilted his head and focused.
Namjoon pauses and maps out the words, "It's just.. she's too kind." he said. Jimin makes a sound of confusion, "Then, why do you want to break up with her?" he questioned.
"Because," Namjoon exhaled, "She only thinks about how others feel, but she doesn't think about herself. I feel like she's forcing herself on me, like she doesn't actually like me," he stopped.
Jimin's eyes doesn't leave him for a second. "It's obvious that she isn't even committing," Namjoon muttered, running a hand through his hair. "I mean, she is, but not because she genuinely likes me.. She just wants me to be happy."
Jimin carefully places his hands on the table, "Namjoon," he called and waited for the older to look at him. "If you feel like that, confront her about it. See if she realizes what she's doing and if you want to break it off, do it."
Namjoon's brows raised up at him. "I'm not an expert in this whole relationship thing, but what I know is.. whatever choice you make, there's always a consequence. So, whether you choose to stay or leave, there will always be an outcome."
. . .
Jisoo brokenly stares up at him, "What?" she stuttered. Namjoon bites back the tears that are threatening to fall. "Let's break up.."
Jisoo slowly leans back in her chair, "But.. why?" she asked, desperately searching for an answer. She thought she was doing everything in her life correctly, but.. why is this happening?
Namjoon sighs, "This isn't what I wanted." he simply said, sounding like he has no sympathy at all. Jisoo looks away and looks up at the empty sky, no clouds decided to present themselves today.
"What was it that you wanted?" she asked. He swallows the lump in his throat, "I wanted a happy, loving relationship," he replied. "Not whatever we have." Jisoo quietly scoffed.
"You don't like me, do you?" she locked eyes with him. "What makes you think that?"
"I've observed you, Jisoo. You do everything people want you to do only because you want them to be happy." he deadpanned. "So, when I said I liked you and asked you to be my girlfriend, you accepted because you wanted me to be happy."
She breaks eye contact, "Isn't that right?" she gulped. Namjoon sighs, "We shouldn't waste any more time," he breathed in. Jisoo watches as he holds out a hand, "It was nice getting to know you.." he said.
She hesitantly holds onto his hand, "Likewise," they firmly shook hands. With a sad smile, he retracts his hand in a hurry. "Promise me one thing."
Jisoo stares up at him once again, not-so-patiently waiting. "Let's never cross paths again." she blinked her tears away. "I promise."
She has learned it the hard way; she learned that being kind and selfless is not everything. Sometimes, you have to be selfish and stand up for yourself.
