Silence is a Virtue

"Mikael?" I whispered in disbelief.

He had a blondish/greyish goatee that matched his short hair. He looked about in his late 40's to early 50's. His expression seemed to be full of sarcasm and amusement, with a hit of cleverness.

Mikael smirked and put his hand over his heart, "Oh dear, dear. My feelings are hurt. I was expecting you to call me 'Grandfather' or 'Grandpa' and tell me how you've been dying to see me," then held his arms out wide, "Is this not a happy reunion?"

No. It is not.

He then looked to my side and dropped his arms, "You may leave now, girl."

I had completely forgot Davina was still there and she had been the one to lead me here. I thought she was actually giving me a chance to be friends with her. At one point, I thought we could go even farther, but I guess I was wrong.

"You lead me here, to my grandfather who most likely wants me dead...A-after everything I just told you?" I asked disbelievingly while stepping away from her.

"Oh Nathaniel. I don't want you dead," Mikael amusingly stated.

"Konner....I swear I didn't know. I-"

I looked to the ground and whispered, "Davina, you can go home now."

"But-"

"DAVINA LEAVE!" I demanded.

She didn't waste a second in running off in the direction we came from.

"My, my. A lovers' quarrel, I presume?" Mikael asked.

I snapped up my head up and growled, "What do you want?"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. You have Niklaus' temper; you think you would've came from him. But no, you are from my eldest of my children and the noble one, Elijah. I knew that for a fact when I first saw you in your mother's dreams. Your looks even confirm it. Anyways, on to more important matters, have you thought about what will happen in 7 days, hmm?"

"I fail to see how that's any of your business," I boldly stated.

"My child," he started as he walked towards me and stopped three feet in front of me. "Your fate is my business," he whispered, looking me straight in the eyes.

Standing tall with my chin up I spoke, "My fate is no one's but my own."

He chuckled and started circling me, "Bravery; another quality inherited from your father. Although, your grandmother would agree that your mother acquires it as well."

I gulped as my mind wandered to the woman at Rousseau's many, many years ago.

"I assume that she is here with you?" I asked, hoping I would get the wrong answer.

He stopped right at my side where Davina once stood, "You are a smart boy. Would you like to meet her?"

Yeah right; like he would give me options.

"Do I have a damn choice?"

He then walked in front of me and stopped to whisper in my ear, "Not unless you would like for me to kill you."

I have no options; I have to follow him. I finally see why Father didn't want me to go out often without one of my family members. I shouldn't have begged him to change his mind about that years ago. I should have listened to him.

"Follow, me Nathaniel. Esther is very anxious," Mikael coaxed and started walking into the cemetery.

I huffed and slowly followed him. I could tell that she was nearby; I could feel her spirit.

He led me down a few, dark paths that eventually blended into one. At the end of this one, there was an old mausoleum. He stopped at the steps and turned, looking at me, "Here we are. You can go in first."

I glared at him, knowing that was a demand, and walked up the steps past him. I opened the door and was immediately greeted by lit candles all among the room.

"Hello, Nathaniel," greeted a deep, feminine voice.

I turned my head from the candles to a middle-aged woman standing in the middle of the room, in front of a stone table. She had shoulder-length blonde hair and had a sincere smile upon her face.

I then felt Mikael's presence behind me. He must be inside now.

Not sure of what to do, I stood firmly in place.

"You have grown since I saw you last. You almost look like a doppleganger of Elijah," then she reached out her hands, "Will you come give your grandmother a proper greeting?"

Again, I once stood in place.

Suddenly, a swift push came from behind me followed by Mikael's voice, "Boy, go to her. NOW.'

Hesitantly, I walked over to Esther and stopped a few feet in front of her.

Shortly after, she stepped closer to me and put both a hand on each side of my face, closing her eyes.

Naturally, a shock ran throughout my body, confirming again that she was indeed still a witch. She seemed not to be affected by it at all though, for she didn't pull back.

She opened her eyes while putting her hands down by her side and glanced at Mikael, then looked back to me and smiled, "How far along are you in your skills? I can teach all you need to know if you'd like."

Should I tell her? Does she know already or is she just wanting to make conversation?

"Nathaniel," she said looking up into my eyes, "You can trust me. I won't hurt you."

"What do you want with me?" I asked honestly.

She quickly glanced at me and then walked over to Mikael. She whispered in his ear, so I couldn't hear I guess, and then they both looked at me.

This wan't looking good.

In a blink of an eye, Mikael came over to me and threw me on top of the table.

I tried to get up and defend myself, but Mikael, being a vampire, used his strength to hold me down. Trying to conjure a spell was useless. I couldn't form any spells in my mind.

"Esther has created a spell in which you have no magical abilities, so no magic, except for hers, will work," Mikael said.

"My family will come for you; including Klaus, Mikael. In fact, they probably already are on their way," I reassured.

Esther came over to stand beside the table; beside Mikael. "My darling, I'm so sorry that you were born into this world, into monstrosity. You have your parents to blame that for. But, as you know, you can be transformed into an unique hybrid; more dangerous and destructive than my dear Niklaus. What they didn't know was that this can be made to happen early, with the help of a powerful force. As a witch, it is my duty to remove the monsters I've created from this world, but your grandfather has suggested to keep you alive in order to remove others of nature's abominations."

This was the end for me. There is nothing I can do in order to prevent this from happening.

"Mikael. They're coming. I can feel it. DO IT NOW," Esther hurried.

The last thing I saw was Mikael biting his wrist and forcing his iron blood down my throat; the world now black and completely silent.
