(Seven Years Later)
It was Cinco de Mayo, and being in New Orleans, there were celebrations and parties everywhere. The main one that everyone was going to was thrown by my Uncle Klaus.
I am currently in my room dressing into a light blue polo shirt and dark blue jeans. My father said that this party was partially formal, but not to the extent where I had to wear a tux. Unlike my father, I was not fond of wearing formal clothes often.
I hurried to my closet and found my favorite pair of shoes. My Sperry's. I grabbed them and made my way to my bed.
As I sat down to put them on, my mother walked in the room, "Konner, your dad asked me to tell you that he wants you downstairs to greet our guests."
I quickly finished tying my shoes, and nodded my head, "Ok, I'll be down in a minute."
I walked over to the mirror across from my bed and observed my self in the mirror, trying to stall. I was uneasy about going to large parties ever since my mother had told me all Esther and Mikael, our family's past, and the prophecy.
Right after my father took me home from the woman who claimed to be Esther, she had told my father and I about the dream she had of Mikael. He had mentioned the prophecy and told her that he wanted somthing, and my mother would find out within time, which made me frightened. And to add to it, my 18th birthday was in a few months. That means if I am turned a vampire, I will become a hybrid and more powerful that my Uncle Klaus. My parents haven't questioned me about if I wanted that or not, but I thought about it everyday. I really am not sure.
My thoughts were interrupted by my mother coming up behind me, "Konner, what is wrong?" she asked worriedly.
I turned around to face her, trying to hide my fear, and shrugged, "Nothing, Mother," and walked towards the door.
I wasn't the type to spill out my feelings instantly. "Konner, please talk to me," my mother asked.
I froze. Damn her vampire hearing. I sighed as I felt her soft hand lightly grab my left arm, turning me around. I shivered slightly; I still haven't gotten used to the feeling of touching vampires.
I silently stared into my mother's eyes for a few minutes, deciding what to say, then whispered, "I'm almost 18. I will have to choose soon," and paused, "I'm worried about Mikael."
She pulled her hand away from my arm and put it up to the side of my face, "I promise he will not harm you; your father and I will not let that happen, and you don't have to choose right now. Just know that your father and I are fully supportive of whatever decision you make."
I gupled loudly and looked away for a moment, then back to my mother. "Now, let's go downstairs. The party has already started," Mother finishes.
I nodded, pushing those thoughts away, and stepped closer towards the door, leaving my mother behind me, and adjusted my shirt collar.
I hear soft laughter coming from my mother, "Just like your father." I turned around and smirked, then I walked out of my room to the party going on downstairs.
