sorry y'all I took a long ass break to focus on school. the book is like a lil under halfway done so ill finish it for u guys and if you like it maybe i'll stick around. Billie has blonde hair now idk how to act. I also don't know how to introduce corona into the book. I might date this as post rona.
The audition process was brutal. I definitely did not qualify. She needs a professional. I am far from professional, but I only have to learn about 12 songs, if I practice hard enough, I can become a professional on these songs.
I really didn't want to get the job because of my relationship with Billie. I wanted to really earn it, but I definitely wasn't prepared enough. But I'll admit, I did use my relationship with Billie as an advantage. I started begging her to bring me to the studio and tour rehearsals with her. I practiced every second I could possibly get.
In the week that followed the good news, I packed everything back up and decided to head over to Dani's until the tour starts. I figured if I were to get this job with Billie, I'd be with her 24/7, so I should at least keep my space up until the tour starts. When I got to their house, the front door swung open before I got the chance to get my stuff out of the car. A taller, very big and buff, older, African American man stood in the doorway. I tried to focus on him and see who he was, but I decided to just get my bags first.
Until I heard squealing from inside, I looked over, and an older, very pretty, light-skinned woman came running to me. She looked almost identical to Dani, just a lot shorter, and a bit older. Before I knew it, we were hugging. "You must be Mrs. Adams!" I screamed as we shared the most loving hug ever.
Dani's mom rambled on, "I've heard so much about you! Is Dani behaving?! Oh please! Call me Carol!" She spoke quickly, and managed to say a hell of a lot while I was hugging her. I looked up to notice the man from the doorway was approaching. That's when I saw his friendly smile.
"Come on now Carol, let her go. She's gotta get her bags and let that poor Uber driver go," he laughed, peeling his wife off of me. "I'm Tim," he had a big grin on as he shook my hand. I formally introduced myself as they helped me bring my bags inside. It was a cute little suburban house in the outskirts of LA, actually very similar to Billie's place.
The mother was beaming with excitement while her husband tried to get her calm and make me feel at home. "I seriously can't thank you guys enough for this," I went on as I sat at their kitchen table, looking forward to getting to know them, as they seemed very nice.
"Oh no honey it is absolutely no issue," Carol went on. "It's actually pretty quiet ever since Dani left. We're excited to finally have someone around," she laughed. Tim nodded in agreement.
"Doesn't she have a younger brother? Where is he?" I could've sworn she told me she had a younger brother.
"Is that what she said?" her father broke out in laughter. "That's Danielle for ya. Technically yea, she's got a younger brother. He's only about 15 minutes younger though, and he's been shipped to UC Davis."
"I can't believe she has a twin! I'm gonna kill her," we all laughed for a bit about it. I eventually broke the news to them that I actually wouldn't be around that often since I'm trying so hard for a job. I explained I'd respect house rules and of course I explained how grateful I am. They expressed understanding, and explained they were just happy to see how motivated I was.
I eventually took my things up to the guest room, which used to be her brothers room, but now their rooms have been combined and this one is a guest room/ home gym now. I texted Dani and Billie. I told Billie that I was settling in and excited to get back to the studio with her so I could practice. I then texted Dani and made fun of her for the way she described her twin. Billie didn't answer me at first so I texted Dani for a little. Dani and Nicole were planning to come over for dinner in the upcoming weekend so she could introduce us and make me feel less awkward here. It should be fun.
I couldn't sleep, I was texting Billie about how nervous and excited I was, but she was falling asleep, as it was already at least 3am. I took out my notebook and started playing Billie's setlist on my phone. I wrote down the drumming patterns in my notebook, trying to follow along as best I could. The people in charge of the audition process had released some pretty loose instructions. But I don't really understand them since I use an entirely separate music language of my own. Plus, it'll give me a chance to be unique and truly think of my own patterns that I think will be dope.
I don't actually know how long I stayed up that first night. I must've spent hours on it because I got almost the whole setlist transcribed and I fell asleep with everything still there. I was so excited to get to the studio the next morning. I made Billie promise to take me so that I could get some real practice in.
I woke up the next morning more excited than ever. I immediately spam called Bil until she answered, I then forced her to come pick me up.
When we arrived at the studio, it was so nice to be around all those instruments and all the people there were interested in what I was. Billie got us alone in one of their studio spaces where we rented out a piano, a guitar, and a drum kit.
"We can start with I love you. She began. Im better on piano so I'll play it really slow and you try to follow along on the drums." She looked so sweet when she was trying to help me learn. "Well I mean, there aren't really drums for this song but like, it's slow so it'll be like a good, easy warm up for you." She began playing the chords on the piano.
I got lost for a minute in the actual beauty in the music she was playing. It's truly such a beautiful melody. I snapped out of it, and prepared myself for when I would enter with the drums, and how I would go about the patterns. Her eyes met mine before she began,
"It's not true,
tell me I've been lied to..."
