It was as if it all moved in slow motion.
Primrose stood stock still as she watched Bronwyn carry Elliot away from her and towards the house, Miss Peregrine leading the group inside. Primrose didn't move and nor did Hugh, despite one of the other boys nudging him to come inside, he just shook his head and stayed in his spot.
For a while they stood there in silence, Primrose staring after her brother in disbelief and Hugh watching the girl. He didn't know what to say, he wanted to comfort her, from whatever she was feeling in that moment, he wanted so badly to take away the pain, all of the pain she had had to endure in her life.
Because he loved her.

What brought them Inside was the start of the nights rain, otherwise Prim might have stayed stood there forever. A little part of her died in that moment. With her brothers words.
Neither of the children said a word as Hugh gently took Primrose by the arm and began walking them back toward the house. He was the only other one who had been close enough to hear Elliots words, so was the only one who understood what may have been going through her brain.
When they got back inside the house, both Emma and Angie attempted to talk to Primrose, but she ignored all of it and just asked where they had taken her brother, once Emma had told them Bronwyn had carried up to the spare bedroom on the top floor next to Victor's, she went straight there, Hugh close behind.
She didn't really care that she was soaked from the rain, despite not having been out there for very long, all she cared about was seeing her brother and making sure he was okay. She didn't know what she would do if she had lost him too.

Primrose had never been in this spare bedroom before, not having ever had the need, so had never seen what it looked like. But she wasn't particularly focused on her surroundings, her eyes were instantly drawn to her brother lain on the bed. She hated it, but she couldn't look away from him.
He looked worse in the lamp light than he did outside, he was paler than usual, his ginger hair dirty and sticking to his forehead in places. But at the same time as he laid there ontop of the floral bedsheets, he looked peaceful, almost... dead.
Miss Peregrine was tending to him as the pair walked in the room, she looked up at the sound of their footsteps and gave Primrose a sorrowful smile when they met eyes.
"How is he?" Primrose asked softly, walking toward the bed. "He'll be okay, he just needs rest. He was exhausted, just like you when you arrived." Miss Peregrine replied with a small smile up at the girl, Primrose nodded in understanding.
"Can I stay?" She asked, looking back and forth between her brother and the headmistress "of course, you can take the sofa over there if you'd like." The woman indicated to a small sofa over by the window at the other end of the bedroom.
Primrose nodded slowly, suddenly overwhelmed with tired at the idea of sleep. "I can go and get some blankets." Hugh offered from the doorway, Primrose looked over at him with a grateful smile, only just now noticing his presence.
"That would be very kind Hugh." Miss Peregrine spoke, Hugh nodded, returning Primrose's smile before walking out of the room.
Primrose watched as Miss Peregrine tended to her brother, cleaning his face and sorting the wounds that littered his arms. She worked in silence and Primrose was grateful; not only for that fact, as Prim didn't particularly want to talk to anyone but also for the fact that she was doing this at all.
Hugh returned not too long later, carrying a pile of blankets. He passed one to Primrose, who took it gratefully then placed the other two on the end of the bed.

Nightmares. They were happening much less frequently, but Prim guessed Elliott's return triggered it, that night was full of broken sleep.
She was asleep on the sofa in the spare room that Elliot had been taken too, Hugh had refused to leave her side and was sat watching her sleep. She looked peaceful, but was far from.
Primrose woke with a start, slightly startling Hugh as well. She was breathing heavy, uneven breaths as she looked around frantically at her surroundings.
"Hey.. hey, hey." Hugh muttered, taking the girl gently by the shoulders to grab her attention "hey, Prim. You're okay now, I'm here." Her breathing slowed as he spoke soothingly, calming her down.
Primrose laid back down with a loud sigh "nightmare?" He asked, sitting back as well, after a while she nodded muttering a quiet "yeah." In response
"Wanna talk about it?" He offered, she didn't look at him and instead stared up at the ceiling, shrugging.
"Are they always the same?" He tried and again after a while she spoke "They repeat the same scenarios from my childhood yeah, they're always about my family."
"Your family theyre-" he asked reluctantly, but she knew what he was about to say and interrupted "Dead? Yeah. Elliots all I have left, that's why I can't lose him."
Hugh just nodded, words didn't seem enough right now. She sat up from her laying position and moved slightly closer to the boy, he got the hint and pulled the blanket over the both of them, proceeding to wrap his arm around her and she rested her head on him.
They sat in silence for a while, listening to the calming sound of the rain pattering against the glass of the window "Are we gonna talk about- you know..." Primrose eventually asked
He knew.
"I guess we have too, we can't avoid it forever." Hugh sighed, Primrose lifted her head, finally looking up at the boy "That's what emma said."
Before Hugh could reply they were interrupted, a small groan came from the other side of the room as Elliot sat up slightly "Prim?" He muttered sounding slightly confused.
"Oh my god Elliot!" She mumbled, hopping up from her seat and rushing over to her brother as fast as her legs could carry her
"I'll go get Miss Peregrine." Hugh sighed, walking out of the room, Primrose's gaze followed him until he was out of sight so she turned back to her brother with a Huge grin painted on her face.
"I'm so glad you're alive." She muttered, throwing herself into his arms.
