"Daddy where are we?" Asked a five year old prim, the man looked down at her with seemingly no emotion "somewhere special, just for you, your brother or sister can't come down here okay?" She nodded, terrified as he opened the door to a small room with just an old looking bed in the middle, and a table with some items on top of it. She stepped inside, expecting her father to join her but instead he stepped out and closed the door "daddy what are you doing?" She asked, her voice higher than usual. "I'm going to help you control your peculiarity primrose" "but i can't!" She said thinking back to all of the previous fails at simple things.
"Try and lift that bowl primrose" he said, watching her through the window in the room. Prim closed her eyes and tried to focus on lifting the bowl infront of her, but as hard as she tried she just couldn't. Primrose began to cry "try again" her father said, annoyance laced in his voice as his daughter stood there crying harder and harder. She tried again, tears now staining her cheeks "please I can't" she whispered, barely loud enough for him to hear "you wont ever succeed if you don't try" "I am!" Primrose screamed, the bowl finally lifting right into the air, but the girl didn't notice as she cried harder "primrose!" He called after a short time, she stopped crying as his sudden shout made her jump and the bowl fell, shattering onto the floor. Primrose's father watched the terrified girl in amazement.
"Prim!" Hugh called for the third time, finally snapping her out of the memory she was reliving "you okay?" He asked concerned, she placed her book next to her which she had barely even read as she was very distracted today "we're gonna go on a walk soon, so you might wanna get ready." He said with a small smile "okay thanks" prim said, barely looking at the boy.
Primrose walked in silence with Hugh on one side of her and Emma on the other, they were the two she was closest too. For some reason she couldn't stop reliving that moment from years ago, she had a funny feeling. A feeling she couldnt shake off that something bad was going to happen but she didn't know why. "Hey, prim you've been extra silent today what's up?" Emma asked, prim looked up at the girl and put on a smile "oh just daydreaming" she lied "about what? Or should I say who.." she said getting quieter at the end so only primrose could hear her. Prim looked up at her wide eyed "no no no what do you mean?" She said "well I've seen you and Hugh recently" she giggled and prim could feel her face heating up. Emma looked between the two peculiars next to her "em!" Prim hissed
"Okay I won't tell!" She said a bit too loudly bringing a finger to her lips "tell what?" Hugh asked raising his eyebrows at the two "oh nothing, Emma's just playing a stupid game" prim said quickly, smiling at Hugh, she didn't know if it was believable but it was much better then telling Hugh what they were actually talking about. Much to primroses relief Hugh accepted it with a smile and a shrug "girls" he sighed, both him and prim beginning to burst out laughing.
As everyone arrived back home the children all began to disperse into smaller groups and pairs around the backyard of the house. "Hey prim, you wanna play football with us?" Hugh asked expectantly. Prims eyes were dragged away from watching their headmistress walking into the house over to the boy stood next to her "oh Uhm, I have to do something first. But I'll be back and I can join then yeah?" She said, he nodded and she walked off towards the house slowly.
Hugh watched his new bestfriend walk away with a sigh "em?" He called walking over to emma who was stood with Enoch under a tree, Enoch looked at Hugh annoyed as he walked over but that was just Enoch in general. "Yes?" She asked "do you think prims been acting funny today?" He asked looking back over to prim who was now just reaching the house with her head down, Emma followed his gaze and stared at the girl too "she has a past Hugh. In the space of one morning she was thrown into a completely new life. She just needs time but she is grateful for you, I know it."
