After hanging out with Olive, Claire and Angelina for a while when dinner was over as they were telling her about the story they had come up with for their dolls, Prim went to her shared room to get ready for bed as she was already feeling exhaused. Unusually the door was closed but Prim walked in the room quickly not noticing Emma, who was sat on the floor surrounded by piles of letters and photographs, until she accidentally kicked her in the back earning a yelp from the girl. "Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry Emma, I didn't notice you!" She explained apologetically to her friend who gave a small laugh "Its Okay, I didn't notice you either.""So, what're ya doing?" Prim asked looking around her at all of the things, some letters were sat on Emma's lap and others on the floor, there were also photographs scattered around, some of which were in a large trunk and others on the floor mixed up with the letters "oh! Uh just organising you know. Don't want my collection to get too messy" she said with an awkward laugh "doesn't really look like you've gotten very far." Prim stated, plopping herself on the floor next to the girl. She pulled out a photograph that had gotten stuck to her leg, it was of two people sat under a tree laughing, one she recognised to be Emma but she was laying her head in the lap of a boy Prim didn't recognise "Hey. Who's this?" She asked, showing the photo to Emma who looked at Prim slightly unsurely "Me duh?" She said making the two of them laugh "I knew that! I meant with you silly"
"Oh that's Abe. He left us along time ago" Emma said taking the photograph and placing it in a pile with a few others before picking up another one of the two of them together again, this time they were at a beach in the photo. "It was during the war, eventually he went to fight and never came back" she said quietly "he died? I'm so sorry- I shouldn't have" She said quickly "no no-" Emma stopped her "instead he decided he didn't want to come back, he lived a normal life. He grew up and had a family" Emma looked increasingly sad as she explained to prim who felt horrible for her, she couldn't even imagine. "Wow- I'm so sorry for bringing it up." She said, Emma hummed in response as if to say 'it's okay' and prim didn't mention it again as she could tell it was a sensitive subject for Emma.
Quickly the two put away all of the photos and letters back into Emma's trunk before she pushed it back under her bed, it seemed heavy so Prim was suprised when Emma pushed it with seemily no problem but then again she was probably used to it's weight. "You know we should get photos of like you and angie- and all of us- oh and me and you. And even one of you and Hugh" she ranted on, saying Hughs name in a singsong voice that made Prim laugh "why'd you say it like that" Emma raised her eyebrows at prims obliviousness but didn't answer, even she could see the two were practically perfect for each other, but prim couldn't at least just not yet.
The next morning as everyone was sat at the dining table for breakfast miss Peregrine stated that morning they were going to have their lessons, to which Hugh groaned at making prim giggle "I don't know why you always think you can get out of them" she whispered to him as he just pulled at face. "Except for Primrose" Miss peregrine said, grabbing Prims attention "we will be practicing your telekinesis today" she said with a smile and prim nodded before looking down, not enjoying the attention that was now on her. Quickly they all finished up their food and left the room.
Hugh hurried over to her "you okay?" He whispered worriedly and she nodded "yeah, I need to do this." She sighed and he hugged her quickly before being dragged away and prim was left with just miss peregrine.
"Okay first of all I want you to show me what you can do, so we know your strengths and know what we need to work on together." Miss peregrine said as they walked towards her office "Yep" prim mumbled, she didn't know why she felt so nervous but she just didn't want to mess up.
Miss peregrine laid three things out on her desk. First of all a glove, then a tea cup and lastly a large book. They began small, and prim could easily lift the glove into the air and place it on miss peregrines hand as instructed. Then she moved onto the tea cup, prim dropped it when she first lifted it but luckily it was close to the desk still, but after a while prim was able to bring the cup towards her. Next was the book, she new it would be more difficult but thanks to her determination prim was also able to eventually lift the book and bring it towards her. After that, prim and miss peregrine practiced a few more things and before they new it a while had passed.
Miss peregrine excused her and, book still clutched in her arms she hurried to find Hugh as she was determined to show him what she could do. After a while Prim found Hugh sat under a tree and reading. "Please tell me you've come to save me, I can't bare to read this boring book anymore" Hugh grumbled, making prim giggle as she sat herself down facing him "sadly no, but! I do have something to show you!" She exclaimed. "Go on" He said, uncrossing his legs and leaning against the tree.
Prim placed the book down, and concentrated on picking up the book and moving it. Quickly the book obeyed, hovering in the air for a few seconds before a shooting pain in her head made prim lose it and the book fall on Hugh's leg. "Ouch" He said, rubbing his leg "you okay? That was great!" "Sorry." She laughed awkwardly "did too much, then I lost it. Didn't mean to drop it on you, honestly" she said, making the pair laugh.
