After their meal primrose and angie went up to miss peregrine who was in the kitchen cleaning up with the help of some of the other children, but tonight wasn't prim or angies night to help and they thought it perfect to go and read. "Miss peregrine?" Prim asked, getting the headmistresses attention as she turned around to face the girls with a small smile "do you possibly think we could go and pick out a book for me to read to angie tonight?" "Ah I was wondering when you would ask that, Angelina has explained that you are quite the reader" Miss P replied, prim let out an awkard laugh "I guess so."Miss peregrine showed them to the library before leaving the girls with free reign to choose whichever book they felt like reading. It didn't take long for them to chose a book though, with a much larger selection here than at their old home meaning there was so much to read. Then they decided to sit outside under a tree at the back of the garden to begin their story, it was a beautiful late summers evening and the sun was yet to set meaning the day was still warm and bright. Before long the sun was beginning to set, prim stopped reading as she noticed Emma and Hugh approach them "we just finished our chores, miss peregrine said we'd probably find you two together reading somewhere" Emma explained as she went to sit down opposite the girls and Hugh followed. Angie giggled excitedly and began explaining what had happened in the story so far to Emma and prim looked over at Hugh, who hadn't said a word yet and she had realised during dinner seemed quite out of character for him. They met eyes briefly before prim looked away quickly butterflies erupting inside of her, why was she feeling like this?
Emma looked between the two and grinned. "Come on angie, you can come and help me do this thing I need to do inside. We can leave primrose and Hugh alone as they are so clearly dying to converse" she said indicating to the two peculiars sat in silence, prim was picking at the grass and Hugh was laying back on his elbows staring at nothing in particular and emma began laughing, Angie on the other hand, didn't seem to understand but followed anyway. Leaving Hugh and prim alone, together.
"So Uhm what's your peculiarly?" Prim asked, breaking the somewhat awkard silence between the two peculiars. "Bees." Hugh sighed "it's not that interesting" letting a bee out of his mouth as he spoke. The small creature landed on prim's finger making her giggle. "Well I think it's beautiful, does this little guy have a name?" "Henry"
"So what about you?" Hugh said, the little bee flying back to him "telekinesis." Prim mumbled, it was a touchy subject "woah that's so cool" "not when you can't control it" prim sighed picking some grass and twirling it around her finger, this fact wasn't something she was proud of. She had tried for so long with other people to work on her peculiarity but no matter how hard she tried she couldn't. She couldn't do it on will like others, it was like prims peculiarity had a mind of its own and to be completely honest, it scared her. So she just shut it out, she hadn't even shared this much with some people she had known for longer than Hugh, but for some reason she felt comfortable with him, they already had a bond somehow. after that the two children continued their small talk with no more mention of peculiarities as Hugh realised she clearly didn't want to talk about it, bees occasionally flew around them, but primrose didn't mind as suddenly, it wasn't awkard anymore.
After a while of random conversation prim looked up at the sky, which was beginning to darken quite quickly. Hugh followed the girl and looked up too, just as drops began to fall on their faces, getting heavier each time "rain?" Prim asked "oh gosh, I forgot" Hugh rushed, he stood up and pulled prim with him who was not prepared and fell right into his arms, for a second time "can't stop falling for me can you?" He joked, prim glared at him and was about to reply but was stopped by a very loud bang in the distance as Hugh grabbed her arm to pull her up from the ground "Miss p will kill us if we're not there" "where?" Prim called "the reset" "oh" prim looked up again and could just make out the outline of some planes above them. Prim grabbed her book quickly before Hugh took her hand to pull her towards the house, where a group of peculiars were beginning to gather.
"Here they are!" Millard called as Hugh pulled prim towards the group. She made eye contact with Emma who smirked at the two as prim noticed they were still holding hands and prim quickly let go, her face bright red as she turned towards miss peregrine who was stood infront of the group of children.
