Abditory ~ a place where you can disappear

Steve Rogers POV

"Dammit!" Tony yells, frustrated. He slams his hands on the table.

"What? What's wrong?" I ask.

"Her phone must be broken or something. I don't know where but she's somewhere in Romania. We have to find her there," Tony tells me.

"How long will that take?" I need my sister back. I couldn't lose her again.

"I don't know. A couple days, maybe?"

"What?!" I exclaim, "You saw her texts! She's in trouble! She could be dying! We don't have a couple days."

Fury glares at me, "If you are too personally involved with this mission then I suggest you leave, Captain."

I look at him for a moment and say nothing. I storm out of the room, going to the gym to let off some steam.

I start punching the bag, drowning out the rest of the world as Thea's voice played through my head.

"Love you Stevie."

"That's not your decision to make."

"I remember. I remember everything."

"I'm sorry Steve. I didn't mean it."

"I miss Mom."

I jolt out of my trance when the punching bag flies off of its chain. I look to my right, to see Nat, who walked towards me, "You okay?"

I rest my forehead against hers, "No."

She sighs, placing a hand on my cheek, "I know. But it'll get better. We'll find her."

My voice slightly breaks, "I can't lose her again, Nat. Not again. You don't know what it was like when she was gone the first time."

Flashback July 8th of 1938

It's been a month since Thea had been missing.

I sat on the couch, staring off into space, thinking about that day at the carnival. In my hands, I held the wilted flower crown she had given me years ago. All the flowers were dead and most of the petals were gone, but it was still a gift from Thea.

I never should have left her.

I should have just listened to her and got a stupid date.

She could be dead.

No.

She's not dead.

I know it.

I hear a knock on the door, but I ignore it.

I hear someone walk in and I finally look away from the wall, watching Bucky, who had a small, pitiful smile, "Hey Steve."

I don't reply.

He points to the flower crown, "Was that hers?"

I respond with a croaky voice, "Yeah. She gave it to me as a gift."

"Steve. I know you don't want to believe it but you gotta. She's been missing for a month buddy," he sighs, sitting next to me.

I glare at him, "She's not dead."

Bucky gives me a pat on the back, "Okay."

"When was the last time you ate?" he asks me.
