Affliction ~ something that causes pain or suffering

"What's wrong?" I run into the room.

Tony and Banner were holding down a thrashing Thea, who had bruises forming on her face. Suddenly, she stopped and looked as if she was being choked. A hand mark formed on her neck and wrists.

Her heart monitor was beeping and going crazy, as well as the other machines in the room. I didn't understand any of them but I knew it was bad.

"Do it!" I panic, looking at Thea in pain, "If it'll help give her the serum. Just do something!"

Banner looks at me hesitantly before grabbing a vial of the recognizable dark blue liquid. He transfers it into a syringe and placed the needle in one of Thea's veins.

This is gonna hurt like hell Thea.

She starts screaming and writhing in pain as the serum coursed through her veins. I sit next to her and grab her hand in mine and whisper, "I know it hurts Thee. I know."

Thea Rogers POV

"Herr Schmidt, the subject is still not complying," Dr Zola says in his thick German accent.

"Really?" Schmidt walks up to younger me.

They had tried multiple things to her but she was just sobbing, "Please. I don't know anything."

This, I don't know, alternate universe thingie I'm in wasn't based off my memories. I knew my time with HYDRA like I knew the back of my hand and this wasn't it.

I don't know what it was.

Schmidt sighs and places a finger under her chin, "You really should just cooperate."

He grabs her by the neck and pushes her against the wall. I feel myself choking and trying to gasp for air, clawing at my neck.

He punches younger me in the face repeatedly, "Where is it?"

"I-I don't know!" younger me screams.

I felt myself slowly losing consciousness as he kept punching her when the room suddenly disappeared. I felt something injected into my neck.

I heard loud beeping and voices surrounding me.

All of a sudden, I feel something coursing through my body as pain shoots through me.

It was similar to when HYDRA had given me powers, but it was ten times worse.

I curl up in a hall and scream in pain. It felt as if thousands of flaming knives were cutting into my skin, over and over again. They were piercing through and burning my skin at the same time. I felt as if I was on fire.

That's when I hear a voice.

Steve's.

"I know it hurts Thee. I know," he whispers.

I keep my eyes squeezed shut as I screamed in agony.

"It's almost over," Steve's disembodied voice tells me.

I curl my fists, causing my nails to dig into my bleeding palms.

That's the last thing before, once again, I black out.

3 weeks later(February 3)

"Thea?" I hear Bucky's voice as I start to open my eyes. My whole body was sore and I look around at everyone. Steve, Nat, Bucky, Tony, Bruce, and Sam were all surrounding the gurney. Bucky gives me a small smile, "Hey."

I grin, "How ya doin?"

I try to get up, but Steve immediately pushes me back down, "I wouldn't do that if I were you. You were in a car accident a few weeks ago."

"Did we get Andrei?" I ask.

Bucky responds, "Yeah. The whole mafia is scattered and disbanded. No one knows what to do. The mission was successful."

I nod, "Any luck on HYDRA?"

This time it's Tony that speaks, "You and Steve need to go back to your house and find the key."

We talk for a few minutes when everyone starts to leave, I grab onto Nat's wrist and she winces harshly, "You got super serum, remember?"

"Sorry. But can you stay? I want to talk to you about something."

She sits back down, "Yeah?"

"Sooooo. Bucky asked me to be his girlfriend," I start, "And I said yes."

Nat squeals.

Natasha Romanoff never squeals.

Am I in a parallel universe?

"OH MY GOD! YES! FINALLY!"

I chuckle, "Calm down! Anyway, how's it going between you and Steve?"

"So we are dating now," she grins, "Did you and Bucky use the L word yet?"

"Leprosy? Lice?"

"I see you've watched Ice Age. But don't deflect the question. Did you guys say I love you yet?" Nat asks.

"You know, I should get some sleep," I tell her.

She raises a brow, "Mhmm."

After she leaves I toss and turn in the small bed, trying to ignore my thoughts.

I loved him, but I doubt he loved me.

I look to my side and grab a metal cup, crushing it with my bare hand.

I hate this.

This is exactly what I didn't want.

To become a weapon.

They replaced my powers with another one.

I'm still a weapon.

I guess that's all I'll ever be.

Even if he could, Bucky shouldn't fall for me. He deserves someone that probably won't die.

The clock is ticking until HYDRA comes and takes me away to make me a heartless assassin again.

I couldn't hurt him like that.

I know that breaking up with him by text was a, how does Tony put it, a dick move, but I loved and cared for him too much to look him in the eyes and tell him this.

I look at the text for a moment, contemplating whether I should do this or not. I take a deep breath and sent it.

Like I said earlier, Bucky needs and deserves someone who can always be there for him.

Someone that doesn't have a voice inside their head telling them to kill everyone and go back to HYDRA.

Someone like me.
