Shiho thought it would be enough. To actually look in his eyes and have him look back in a way that didn't say "leave me alone." To ask about his day and have him, however short, answer. To hear the words "I love you" from him even though it was clear as day that he didn't mean it, or even tried to.
No. It really is enough. Because if it isn't, what is she left with? Just a whole lot of nothing.
Temari thought it would be enough. To look into his eyes, and know that he loves her despite the beautiful bride by his side. To be far away, but know he misses her just as dearly as she misses him. But it had to be enough. Because however much we want to say otherwise, there are things that are far more important than love. She understood that. So, she gulped down her misery and watched the boy she loved getting married to another. No matter how broken one's heart already is, it seems that there is always room for more. And to be honest, she wasn't mad at it. Because the pain she felt didn't accompany the numb void she dreaded so much. It was the good kind of pain that proved she was once happy.
Shikamaru thought it would be enough. To get to tell his father on his dying breath that he reached victory on the only thing that really mattered to him. To know all his hard work had paid off and that he didn't disappoint his father to the very end. And it would've been enough to any other, but not to a brat like him. He doesn't expect everything to fall into his lap like how people seem to think of him, but he doesn't stop until he gets all of them. Now, however, he had to stop.
It had to be enough to know, or at least believe, that she loves him but see her in the audience seat instead of beside him in a white dress. It just had to be. He needed to figure out whether he actually had a heart or his brain did all the work for it, and he wasn't going to risk ruining anybody' life, especially not her life, before figuring that out.
And you know what? It's going to be enough.
