Chapter 2

On Monday morning, Temari's eyes shot open in silence. Maybe she missed the alarm?

Panicking, she picked up her phone in a flash.

5:50. The alarm hasn't even gone off yet.

Sighing in relief, she got up, turning it off. She thought about everything that needed to be done before she can leave the house while making way towards the bathroom. Her school bag was ready, filled with necessary contents, on her chair. She had already picked out an outfit for today the night before as well, which were a long-sleeved white blouse with a pair of honey yellow trousers, sitting neatly on her desk.

She stood in front of the mirror, staring at the reflection. Because she didn't get the much needed sleep this weekend, the bags under her eyes hadn't disappeared. She considered wearing foundation, so she looks well rested.

After she got out, she opened the almost empty fridge, leaving a mental note to go grocery shopping after school today. She reached for the remainers which were some bread, few eggs and half a carton of milk.

Footsteps could be heard from upstairs and she shouted "Could you please wake up Kankuro?"

- I am Kankuro.

- Oh sorry. Then could you tell your brother to come down for breakfast?

- Sure, not that I need to, but sure. - he mumbled as he dragged his feet to the other direction of where he was going.

Today, weather-wise, was a nice day in Konoha. Though everyone knew it was probably one of the lasts since November was reaching its end. Temari took precautions and grabbed her coat while her siblings were in a single shirt, and Kankuro, even in shorts. And it seemed like everyone else had the same thought process as them, they wanted to let the sun touch their skin while it still can.

The sand siblings went their separate ways when they reached the school campus.

- Good morning, Temari. How was your weekend? - Hinata asked her in a friendly manner.

- Morning, Hinata. It was fine, thanks for asking, how was yours? - she asked, smiling back at her seat companion.

Kakashi Hatake, their classroom teacher, came in to take attendance. He was calling out everyone's names in alphabetical order and when he called out Shikamaru Nara, no one was expecting an answer.

- Here.

Temari turned her head to the back of the class.

- What brought you to actually wake up when you're supposed to? - Shiho asked jokingly.

- I don't know. - he murmured, resting his head on his arms, his mind already drifting to sleep.

She turned her gaze towards her notebook, as Kakashi started his lesson along with the bell.

As the lesson continued, she couldn't help but glance back and forth. For the first time, the white haired girl she didn't know from Adam started to look clearer in her visions. Her pale skin supplementing her long straight white hair that fell down on her shoulders, perfectly, the light blue sundress that hugged her figure, and her grey eyes that reminded you of mist, looking at one thing.

She wondered what was wrong with her. Suddenly the things that didn't really bother her were now on the edge of her mind. And it caused an immediate hit to her heart.

- Shikamaru. I would like to remind you that your desk, is not your bed. Could you get up from it, please. - Kakashi suddenly said in a warning tone as Shiho nudged him in the shoulder.

- Sorry, sir.

- Could you do the honors, and write... problem 243 on the board? I would presume it's no problem for you.

Shikamaru stayed in silence and walked up to the front of the class. He, of course, didn't have any problems and the students started writing it down immediately, not waiting for Kakashi to check it like they do with the others.

- Okay, seriously, how do you do that? - Shiho asked.

- I had looked over this year's math program in case of things like this happening.

- When?

- Sometime in September. - he replied, though he knew the exact date.

- And you remember it? God Shikamaru, you never stop to amaze me.

- Why? You should be used to me by now after all these years, and yet you still say the same thing.

- Somethings you never get used to. - she said with a weak smile.

Shikamaru sighed under his breath as he thought about Shiho. He once believed he loved her. But looking back at all the memories and the supposed "feelings", they all seem like a kid's dream to him. He just liked the idea of love back then, and what better person than the girl with the highest reputation in class? But now, he has woken up from that dream and it was clear she hadn't.

He looked over to Temari and they locked eyes. He gave her a full smile and it caught her by surprise. She smiled back.

While Shiho was looking at them, she felt curious. She always got what she wanted. The prettiest barbie to the most expensive dress, everything she laid eyes on, was hers. But it just so happens that the thing she wanted the most, she can't have.

She thought back to middle school, and how she was sure, he was no exception. He was hers. He held her hand back then. He kissed her then. He smiled at her then.

But now, as she was watching him smile at another girl, she truly felt curious. Why?

How did she lose him?

Was he ever hers from the start?

She noticed that in her hand, she held a crumpled paper. She adjusted her stare as she realized the never ending moment had passed, and he was sleeping on the desk beside her.

She still couldn't compensate. She stared at him, at his strong jaw, his curly hair, his cheekbones to his lips. She couldn't point on anything she would change. She inhaled and her nostrils were met with his intoxicating scent reminding her of coffee.

She shifted her gaze to the blonde, and to her eyes, she looked nothing especial. Just another ordinary human.

It was true what they say. Love makes things a hundred times better.
