"See you after summer!" Lucinda hugged her three new friends, who became everything to her for the past year.
"Bye!" Newt, Teresa, and Thomas went to ride the subway to their residence. Lucinda dragged her luggage to where her family was.
'This is going to be the worst summer ever,' the blonde glumly thought.
No words were exchanged; Lucinda said a quick "Hello mother, father," and the family went back to the Malfoy Manor. Lucinda could swear she heard her father say, "hanging out with filthy mudbloods, what a disgrace." That made her upset. Her friends were everything she could ask for - kind, nice, smart, witty, caring... These adjectives were not enough to describe them.
The days were silent and tense. The tension was so high that Lucinda might have spontaneously combusted. Her parents never directly said it, but it was evident they were highly disappointed.
'But it's not my fault,' Lucinda thought. 'And I like Gryffindor!'
She decided to send a letter to her friends. An SOS note.
Dear Newt, Teresa, and Thomas (don't be mad, Thomas, the names are written in alphabetical order)
How are you? I hope you're having a great summer, throwing pranks and stuff. Well, I have a horrible one. I don't talk with anyone except our house-elf Dobby. Being a Gryffindor was not my fault; it's not even a fault - it's a good thing not being with all those snobby Slytherins!
Anyway, the thing is, could you please send your address? I can't take it. I can manage my sleeping arrangements, so no bother. Miss you guys!
Always,
Lucinda
Lucinda gave the letter to her owl Midnight, and it soon flew away.
A few days later, the replies came back.
Address: WICKED Children's Home, 75th Westing Street, London (it was written in Teresa's neat handwriting)
Dear Cindy,
It would be very good if you'd come over. You definitely don't deserve that kind of treatment. We hate our so-called "home," but we're managing (last week, the other kids and we toilet-papered the staff room. It was hilarious!) Anyway, see you soon.
Newt
Dear Lucinda,
Due to the "ban" of calling you Cindy, this letter has become very formal and boring. Might I suggest I call you Lucy?
By the way, as Newt wrote, we are managing. I miss you too, and I hope I see you soon!
Teresa
Dear Lucinda,
We love our life (note the sarcasm), but anyway, it's all those routines. The others have written pretty much what I wanted to, so I have not much to write. I hope your escape succeeds. Good luck and see you soon!
Thomas
Alright, now it was time to escape and visit London. As night came, Lucinda packed her stuff (clothes, snacks, books, and other things) and hopped on her broomstick.
