"i still don't know how you snuck out!" jacob groans as the three get out of the car, seeing the crowded east high school before them.
nini chuckles "there's a lot you don't know about me."
"i love your mysterious ways." aria sighs as she adjusts her backpack and they make their way towards the entrance
"it's like you're a grounded-free girl." jacob tells them "i got grounded for no reason last year-"
"you mean when you beat up ricky and got suspended?" aria asks him with her eyebrows raised
jacob waves his hand "do we have to go into the specifics?"
the girls just shake their heads as they arrive at nini's locker, the girl opening it up to put her books in
"i still don't get it." jacob says
"still don't get what?"
the three turn around to see seb and carlos arriving hand in hand, followed by ashlyn, kourtney and maya.
"sebby, it's obviously about how fabulous i look," carlos says evidently, everyone chuckling as they all excitedly greet each other.
"totally right los," aria nods
maya comes over to give jacob a greeting kiss, aria groaning
"guys come on, i just ate breakfast." she sighs
"you're just jealous cause you don't have a boyfriend." jacob smirks, putting his arm around maya who lightly nudges him to be nice.
aria rolls her eyes "it's a choice." she mutters
"how was your spring break guys?" seb asks happily
"amazing!" kourtney exclaims "new york was literally everything."
"i had to visit my sister in england, so it wasn't so bad." maya tells them
"you guys got to go to these amazing places while i was stuck here." ashlyn groans
"you still did some fun things didn't you?" nini asks confused
"spending the day listening to ej going off about college while he's back for the holidays and third-wheeling with him and gina aren't things that i would call 'fun'" ashlyn says, seb placing a hand on her shoulder for comfort.
"well, you still have summer holidays to look forward to." jacob reminds her
"i'm already counting down the days too," carlos adds
nini shakes her head with a smile before feeling an arm being draped over her shoulder, looking up to see ricky before he gives her a small kiss on the cheek while big red and gina come to greet everyone with a smile.
"aria look away," jacob sings, his twin-sister punching his shoulder before the bell rings
"oh i've gotta go," maya exclaims, adjusting the strap of her bag
"wait where?" carlos asks confused
"principle lee asked me to show around this new student since i'm part of the student council." maya explains
jacob sighs and she gives him a quick kiss before rushing down the hall.
"don't worry jacob, you'll see her again." aria smirks.
jacob rolls his eyes before they all part ways; gina, kourtney and ashlyn one way; aria, big red, seb, carlos and jacob another: leaving ricky and nini.
nini shut her locker shut and ricky held her hand as they made their way to their first class
"how did you sleep?" he asks her
"good." she says, trying not to show her tired self. her nightmares were back and were even more intense than ever - but she couldn't let him know that...
he looks at her "you sure?"
she nods with a plastered-on smile "don't worry, i'm all good."
he returns the gesture and nods as they enter the classroom; not before something catches nini's eye.
she stopped abruptly, her heart too, and squinted her eyes to see the back figure of a brown-haired boy wearing a red shirt; and a bracelet on his wrist that seemed all-too familiar.
"neens, you okay?"
ricky's voice snaps her out of her thoughts and she turned to look at him "what?"
"you okay?" he repeats
nini looked back to where the figure was, only to see it gone.
"y-yeah-lets go," she says, shaking the thought of who it could be out of her brain as she followed ricky into the classroom.
