Lucius sat in his study that night for a while with the ball still in full swing downstairs. He collapsed in his chair, squeezing his eyes shut as his hand clenched, knowing that somewhere Celeste would be squirming due to his spell. His promise to leave the girl be for the time being had fallen to pieces in a matter of weeks, a strong man reduced to a pacing mess when he thought about her over and over. Love. A voice in him said. It had taken a mere two months to fall for the girl. His breath grew ragged just thinking about the term love, and if it was something he felt for the girl.
The plan had gone full circle. Beginning as a ploy by the dark lord to entice her onto their side, falling helplessly to Lucius wanting to be around the young witch night and day, to then him lying to her, telling her that she was just a ploy in a part of a bigger plan.
He gritted his teeth as the door behind him opened. "Lucius" a voice said.
"Raymond" he familiarized himself with the voice before he turned around. "Why aren't you downstairs enjoying the party?"
"I can ask you the same thing, and the girl. Where has she ended up?" The man asked as he took steady and slow steps toward Lucius in his chair.
"Her whereabouts are not my concern" he replied, running a hand through his hair.
"But you want them to be?" Raymond raised a brow, Lucius' jaw clenched
"I do not know what you are talking about Raymond".
"Come on. You expect me to believe there is nothing going on between the two of you hmmm?" He almost scoffed. "Please, you could barely keep your eyes off her".
"She is a friend of Dracos, nothing more".
"Its alright old friend, your secret is safe with me". Lucius flinched at the term. They were colleagues nothing more. "However, I do sense some hostility between the two of you. Did she break your heart?" The man said mockingly
"Don't be ridiculous" Lucius brushed it off. But, perhaps she had. Or at least caught his heart between those delicate fingers of hers. He thought back on the night where she had told him she had been with Draco. He looked back at it glumly. He had hurt her, and she just took it, because it was the only thing she knew. He had to keep remembering that, that is why he was distancing himself, badly yes, but distancing himself nonetheless so he, and no one else, hurt her again. Even if it meant irritating the dark lord. "Is that what you came here to announce? That you know my secret".
"Ah so you admit there is a secret?" Raymond smirked.
"Only if you're willing to keep it".
"Of course Lucius. It's none of my business, and I know you aren't and never were happy with Narcissa. All I really wanted to know is why on earth you would do this to yourself"
"Do what?"
"You are obviously tense. I am guessing the girl has something to do with that. Perhaps, for some reason, you have ended it".
"You are perceptive I will give you that", Lucius said as he stood up, pouring the both of them a whiskey. "Even if you are insufferable".
"We don't have to be friends to understand one another", they clinked the glasses before the both of them threw back the strong liquid. "I just don't want this little separation from the young witch to distract you, from other, important matters". Lucius frowned
"Oh? And what might those be?"
"Getting her prophecy" The man said quickly. Lucius almost flinched.
