It was finally game time! Percy and Jeremy were in the locker room suiting up. They were still at a loss for what happened and how they had gone from the convention to ending up waking up in chairs with their teammates shaking them awake.
But it was what it was. No one was hurt.
The game began with tight pressure from both teams, until the penalties and special teams play began.
Zady delivered a slashing penalty to an Islanders player. And then there was a Tyler Marchand penalty, which I think was a rather weak call on him. Both penalties were killed off with ease, however.
To cap all of that off, Brampton dropped the gloves with some dude named Boychuk. We were all on our feet on the bench, cheering him on. The fight wasn't much, just an even dance, with no one really managing to get off any harmful swings. They mainly just wrestled each other to the boards, grabbing tightly onto one another.
They headed to the box and the play resumeed rather quickly. The shift started out strong, as coach Quinn put Percy's line on the ice. They drove into the zone, creating some solid chances, including Percy taking a shot at the net and then Jeremy followed up, taking a few as well.
But then the puck got fumbled at the blueline and the Islanders took control. Jeremy rushed to help out and Percy launched off to join them. Everyone was in the neutral zone, taking the puck away and then giving the puck away and taking it back.
And then Val committed a penalty.
Jeremy watched as he hung his head and skated to the box. He plopped down inside and sighed heavily.
"Take a seat, little Russiah draft bust," one of the Islanders snarled, skating by the box.
Jeremy tensed up, but headed to the bench with the rest of the group that was on the ice, so that the PK unit could come out.
Luckily, the PK didn't last very long as an Islander player took a high-sticking call and sent everyone to a 4-on-4.
Things began to settle down toward the end of the period though, with some nice chances and shots on goal for us. Just about everyone, except Scooby, all had a shot on goal at least. And with the confidence from the good play mounting, Jeremy and Percy had a really good shift with their linemate, Nikita Namestnikov.
The clock wound down as they kept up their solid play and held the 0-0 score.
The period came to an end rather quickly, despite all the penalties in the beginning and they headed to the locker room. Jeremy was rather pleased and impressed with the play and how they handled the Islanders in the first.
They just needed to capitalize and keep the pressure up on them!
The second period got underway with much of the same action like what occurred in the first. Jeremy and Percy's line drew some sweet, solid play with their shift. They get off some more shots, but the Islanders goalie stopped them all.
He was playing really well. Unfortunately.
They headed to the bench, earning praise from Quinn and from Brampton and all the vets. They told them to keep it up and keep shooting. Something would go in eventually. It had to, right? They sat down as the next line took to the ice.
Jeremy got a sip of gatorade and watched as the goalie for the Islanders made a series of three stellar saves on Tyler.
"How?!" Percy gasped.
"No way," Jeremy muttered, shocked at the play.
"Son of a bitch!" Brampton shouted out, his face animated from his shock. "What the hell is it going to take to get one by that guy?!"
