I was curious to see what she had gotten. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out the small slightly and green baggie, giving it a little shake, her mischievous smile said it all. Although I was somewhat focused of how her tongue playfully touched the tip of her top tooth.

"It's for you." She informed. "I know nothing says thank you like pills..." Beth said sarcastically with a roll of her eyes, it wasn't your traditional gift but I didn't mind. "Uh—I didn't do anything." I said with confusion, giving a small tilt of my head. "It's for being nice. Like how you didn't assume anything back there. It's just—most of Rios friends are assholes, but not straight up assholes, you know? Like they just say stupid things, even Joe. But not you. You and James are literally the only decent ones..."

"...Anyways, what I'm saying is that you're one of the few that hasn't told me to go fuck myself, or to choke on a dick..." even though it was said to her jokingly sometimes she couldn't help but feel they just spoke to her like that because she was a girl. A couple times was funny, but it got annoying over time. I thought it was kinda fucked up how she felt she had to kinda reward me for not being a dick to her. It was a token of her gratitude.

She had always been surrounded by people like that. Growing up in her family, like many Hispanic households, and other ones too, the males are more dominant. Doing the 'heavy lifting' while the girls cleaned and cooked. It was something that she was always used to. It's not that boys were actively trying to be mean to her, they were just fucking stupid.

"Yeah, it's like basic human decency." I told her with a small chuckle, taking the bag from her hand gently, I wasn't expecting her to actually get me two extra. In that moment all I could think about was Gregg and how he treated her. I knew she loved him, and I saw the way she looked at him, but he wasn't all that great. Who knows, right now he could be with some other girl, it wouldn't be such a stretch.

Then there was also the way she was with me, I felt that maybe she liked me too, but it was probably my stupidity talking. Just because she was nice to me, didn't mean she was interested, she was nice to James too, she was nice to everyone and talked to a whole bunch of people. A boy can hope. "You don't want one?" I questioned, to that, she shook her head. "No, I'm too scared to do that. Bad reaction one time. I tried to take it for my anxiety but turns out it made it worse."
