Something Big by Shawn Mendes

"Ughhh. Why does unpacking have to be so hard?" Katie groaned as she flopped on the couch. The girls were trying to unpack into their new apartment, trying being the key word. So far all they've done is dump their suitcases in the floor.

Of course, its not like they had much to unpack, all they had was their clothes, toiletries, and the few instruments they'd brought with them. Those instruments consisted of Maddi's guitar, Chase's bass, and Chase's small keyboard. They still had to find a music store and buy Katie a new drum set, since they couldn't take her old one with her.

Chase flopped on the couch beside Katie, exhausted also. As soon as they had finished playing on the beach, they set out to find a place to live. They found a pretty cheap apartment that was already furnished, and it had WiFi also.

Katie and Chase immediately sat up when a familiar tune came from Maddi's phone on a charging dock. Chase and Katie looked at each other and sang- "Back at school, they all thought I was an outcast car crash. Hopeless fool, they said to me." "AH AH." Maddi sang, running in from the kitchen.

They all looked at Katie as she sang her designated solo,  "And my boyfriend, said I messed up will I ever grow up? Well in end, IM NOT GONNA!" And soon enough, they were all singing along. "WHAT WAS I THINKING? EVERYONE SEE'S IT. ITS NOT A SECRET, THAT IM JUST A REJECT. SICK OF THE SYSTEM, DONT WANMMA HEAR IT. ITS NOT A SECRET THAT IM JUST A REJECT."

They were all singing and dancing to the song that had brought them together. It just described them so perfectly. Katie's ex boyfriend left her for not growing up and not "having a plan" for the future, and none of them were the best students. Chases teachers hated her because she didn't live up to the high standards of her sister, and Maddi could care less about school. That's why they dropped out at the beginning of second semester of their senior year. To be free, to leave their stupid small town.

"AND THEY TRY TO CHANGE ME BUT IM TO FAR GONE. AND THEY CALLED ME CRAZY SO I PLAYED ALONG. AND THEY TRY TO SAVE ME BUT IM ON MY OWWWWWN. LADADADADADADADA."

By now they were all dancing and singing, and Maddi was playing her guitar while Katie hit on the box that was her temporary drum set.

When the song ended, they all fell back on the couch, listening to Fall Out Boy. "Hey guys? You wanna go get something to eat? I saw this pretty cool diner when we were driving around." Maddi asked. Katie and Chase nodded their heads, and they slipped on their shoes and jackets.

Maddi drove, since she knew where the diner was. As she pulled in, they all noticed an 'Entertainment Wanted' sign and smiled at each other. "Well guys, I think I just found us a job," Maddi said,  smirking.

They went inside and walked up to the desk where you placed your order. "Hey, uhm, we were wondering if we could get some information on the 'Entertainment Wanted' sign out front?" Maddi asked the lady working the register. She smiled and replied, "Of course! You see, our old band quit, so we're looking for some entertainment for our diners. Comedy, Music, and Acting are the main three acts that we've had taken place here. We pay $100 per show, and you choose the dates, although we do ask that its at least once a week, to keep the diners coming." Maddi smiled at Katie and Chase and said, " Well, we're actually a band, and we'll take the job." The lady smiled. "Okay! We'll give you guys the papers to fill out, and we'll see you at your first show! Have a nice day!"

Maddi smiled and took the papers to a nearby table. They talked about the dates they'd be performing and the songs they'd sing. They were so giddy and happy, things were finally working out for them. When they walked out, they saw an old wooden stage, built in the back of the diner. It wasn't much, but to them it meant the world. Little did they know, that stage was the start of so many artists before them, and could possibly be the start of their career as a band.

Katie sighed. It was gonna be a lonnng day. They're first gig at the diner was tomorrow, and she still didn't have a drum set to play on. I could play my box. She thought, then quickly rid of the idea. 1) That was SO Ashton Irwin, and 2) It was unprofessional. She walked up and down the isles of the music store Chase and Maddi dropped her off at and looked for drum sets.

Chase and Maddi had gone to get the incredibly long grocery list while she found her a set, so far with no luck. She walked towards the back of the store, where a jet-black set stood. It was raised on a platform, and she eyed it. It had everything she needed, and it came with a comfy-looking stool and matching drumsticks. She looked at the price tag and cringed. $2000? For a drum set? She looked at it with longing in her eyes. She wanted that set, like a little girl wants a kitten.

She sighed and walked away finding another one she liked. It was white and thankfully, the price was much more affordable on this one, and it was still nice. She was just about to ask the cashier for help when she saw a familiar boy walk in the shop. Oh hell no. She thought as she quickly darted in a different isle.

Of all places, why did he have to come in here?! Surely there were more upscale music stores in LA, why did he have to come in here? She looked over the top of the isle to see him looking a t her, or staring would be the correct term. She walked out of the isle towards him, trying to contain her excitement.

"Hey" He said, smiling. Those dimples. She thought, then quickly snapped out of it. "Hey" She replied, smiling back. "Aren't you one of those girls me and the guys saw at the Hilton? Your the drummer, right?" She nodded her head, silently freaking out. The Ashton Irwin was talking to her. Holy guacamole. She thought.

He just smiled again. "What was your name again?" She blushed, and prayed he didn't see. "Katie." She said it so quiet it was almost a whisper. "Nice to see you again Katie." She nodded her head, and said "You too Ashton" and smiled again. "So, what brings you to LA?"

"Well, just band stuff. We're not very out there, so we came to LA to get a few gigs and hopefully get noticed." Katie said.

"Oh. What's your bands name?" Ashton said, curious.

Katie felt her phone buzz. She took it out of her pocket and answered it, not checking the caller ID. "Hey girl! We're on our way back now, have you found anything?" It was Chase. "Yeah, I found one. I'll need help carrying it put though." Katie said, eyeing the white drum set she saw earlier. "Okay! See ya in a few!" Chase said, then hung up.

"Well, I've actually got to get going." Katie said, looking up at Ashton. "Okay! I'll see you around, I guess?" She wasn't sure if she was imagining things or not, but it looked like Ashton was blushing.

"Yeah, I guess." Katie said, walking up to the cashier. She paid for the kit, and when she turned around, he was gone.
