The Anthem

The Anthem by Good Charlotte

"Luke!" Maddi shouted, storming down the stairs. "Lucas!"

"I told you not to call me that!" He yelled back, coming out of his room.

Maddi held up a black and yellow Nirvana shirt that was obviously too big for her small frame.

"What did you do with my Nirvana shirt?" His eyes widened as he snatched it from her hands. "I haven't seen it"

Just then a tired-looking Calum appeared wearing a two-size too-small Nirvana shirt, with a hint of Hus stomach peeking out the bottom. Maddi rolled her eyes and shook her head, holding back a laugh.

Just then Chase came down the stairs, wearing her favorite All Time Low shirt and ripped jeans. Her eyes glanced up at Calum as she snorted, then doubled over laughing.

Calums eyes widened as he remained silent, his face turning a crimson red. "I, uh, uhm... I'm gonna go change."

He darted back into his room, slamming the door.

His door opened for a spilt second as he threw Maddi's Nirvana shirt put, then it slammed again.

"Well todays gonna be an interesting day." Chase stated.

They all pulled into the great Capitol Records building, the sun beating down on them. No matter how many times they came here, it never failed to awe the girls.

Today was another meeting with Derrick to get started on their EP, deciding on recording, song writing sessions, and cover art.

They walked into the familiar office and sat down, waiting on their late manager. The building was super busy, people running left and right.

Just then Derrick appeared, looking tired and stressed. "Sorry guys," he sighed. "I was in a meeting and I lost track of time."

He sat down at his desk and pulled out sketches of the girls in different settings. "So I had one of our main cover artists draw some album art for you guys for the EP."

The girls leaned over the desk, taking in each one. There were 3 in all, and each one was special in its own way.

The first one was a black and white brick wall, with each of the girls taking part in spray painting "REJECTS" on the wall.

The second was a shot of all the girls laying down in a circle, but only their faces showed. Rejects was written at the top, and there were little doodles all around them.

The third was a mountain cliff, and the girls were at the edge, peering over. A sign that spelled out REJECTS was written with spray paint!, setting at their feet.

Katie sighed, "they all look so good!"

Derrick smiled and pulled the pictures in a folder, hanging it too them. "I'll give you a couple days to decide, look over them and see which you like best. I need an answer by next week so we can get the photoshoots and stuff going"

He leaned back in his chair. "So how do you guys feel about going in a studio and working with some songwriters?"

Maddi chewed on the inside of her lip. "As tempting as that sounds, we have actually have some music written. It may need tweaking, but we've been working on these songs for awhile now."

"We have three or four really good songs that we think should make the EP, you can look over them if you want." Chase piped up.

"How about we're call up ole Feldy and have him look over them?" Ashton called out from the back of the room.

The boys had been silent the whole meeting, they had forgotten they were there.

"Actually, that sounds like a really good idea! He can look over some songs and stuff, and maybe start writing for an album in the future?" Derrick looked to the girls for approval.

Katie let out a shaky breath, "this is way too much to handle." She laughed. "But yes I think that sounds good."

"Okay then! Its settled. I'll see you guys next week! Until then try and come up with more song ideas, I'm sure the guys can help you out. After that we'll work on getting you guys into a recording studio. See ya!" Derrick stood up and ushered the out of the room, waving as they left.

"Oh my gosh were gonna meet THE John Feldman!!" Maddi squealed. "What if he doesn't like our ideas? What if he thinks our songs are stupid? Guys, what if he doesn't like our music?" Maddi blabbered until Luke slapped a hand over her mouth.

Chase laughed. "Thanks, we needed that."

Luke pulled his hand back wiping it on his black pants. "She licked me!" He whined.

Maddi smirked. "You asked for it, buddy."

Calum flopped on his bed a groaned. He heard a knock on his door, but ignored it. Probably just Michael. He thought.

He heard the knock again, and got up to answer it. When he opened the door, Maddi was standing there.

He widened his eyes in shock. "What are you doing here?"

She sighed and looked at the ground. "What's going on with you and Chase?"

Calum stood there for a few moments, then gestured for her to come in. He sat on his bed and patted the spot next to him, motioning for Maddi to sit down.

Calum gathered up all his courage and sputtered out "I like her. Alot"

Maddi rolled her eyes. "Well duh. We all know that, except for Chase. She's so oblivious to guys its almost funny,"

"Besides, if you lie her then ask her out. Take her to dinner, make her happy." Maddi picked at her jeans then looked up.

"That's the problem. I can't. Michael keeps doing that and he only does it to make me mad and I just wanna be with her but he won't let me and I don't want him to hurt her." Calum said in one breath. He sighed and looked up.

"Don't let him get to you, that's what he wants obviously." Maddi rolled her eyes. "Just ask her out, the worst that'll happen is she'll say no, but I doubt that'll happen. She's got the hots for you too." Maddi winked.
"I don't know... I mean I really really like her, believe me. But I'm scared I might lose her. I'm not good with girls, or people in general." Calum blushed and looked down. "The only thing I'm sure about in life is my music."
"Well whatever you do, just don't hurt her please"
