"What do you mean you knew all along?"

"I didn't know all along! I just had my suspicions!"

Conner's face was tomato red, and his voice was getting higher and higher pitched. Bree was also getting uncharacteristically flustered.

"I- when did you realize?"

"Uhh." Bree looked to the side. "It was sort of a... gradual thing? But I mean... you really slipped up in like November."

Conner looked horrified. "WHAT DID I DO?"

Bree smacked her forehead. "You said you cracked your phone when you got into that fight... and I picked up your cracked phone when it fell. Of course, I tried to dismiss it as a coincidence, but more "evidence" accumulated... like being in my English class, and also being a writer, and so and so..."

Conner facepalmed. "I left a trail didn't I... man, I was so careless. And all the while I have no idea who you are. I don't know if I'm stupid or what..."

Bree shifted on her feet. "I think I did slip up a few times... but I kinda tried to made excuses (they were pretty bad though) and you kinda fell for it?"

"Oh great," Conner deadpanned. "So I'm just stupid."

Bree shrugged. "Well, at least the cat's out of the bag..."

There was an awkward silence. Conner would've coughed, but he could feel terror rising from beyond the fourth wall due to that simple action, so he didn't. 

"So we knew each other all along."

"... Well, it's a small world."

They were both nodding vigorously.

"Well," Bree exhaled with a smile. "It's nice to finally meet my best friend in real life."

Conner's lips quirked up. "Yup, nice to meet- uh, re-meet you."
