A Flicker of Redemption

Chapter 14

Gemma, Tara, and Lyla made dinner that evening. The Queen, not seeing Angelika in the main room, went to the younger woman's dorm and told her dinner was ready and to come out and get some before all the men ate it all. Angelika cautiously left her room, locking it behind her, and walked to the kitchen. There was a line so she stood patiently to make herself a plate. She heard the same brunette who'd been glaring at her earlier state she didn't know why she was there on lockdown with them. Gemma quickly retorted that she was a friend of the club's and therefore needed protection.

Angelika was going to take her dinner back to her room to eat in peace but Happy grabbed her arm as he was in line and told her to have a seat at his table. She wanted to argue with him but he was having none of it and forcefully told her to have a seat. She huffed at him before he let her go to sit down where she'd been earlier. He brought her a bottle of water when he finally came to sit down earning a raised eyebrow from the Scotsman. Angelika ate in silence as the three men at her table discussed the lockdown and how long they thought it would be going on. She hoped for only one night, not wanting to deal with other women. She'd learned not to trust women after she'd opened up to one and she'd turned against her with the information Angelika had confessed to her.

Happy could tell she was uncomfortable, especially with the women in the club, but hoped she'd relax some sitting out with him. Chibs kept a close watch on Happy and the young woman as they interacted with one another to see if he could tell what was really going on. Tara kept looking over at the new blond and scowling. Jax was too busy chatting with Bobby trying to decide what their next course of action should be to notice the looks his wife was giving Angelika. Lyla was more curious about who she was, where she'd come from, and how she was associated with the Sons than anything else. Gemma sat with some of the other 'ol ladies chatting and catching up on life.

Once she'd eaten, Angelika threw her trash away and headed straight back to her dorm room. Happy sighed wishing she'd put more of an effort into sticking around to get to know his brothers more. Chibs watched Happy as he kept glancing towards the hallway to the dorms. 'What is going on with 'im?' Chibs wondered as he ate. Tig got Happy's attention talking about what he thought Jax was going to do about the threat. She'd locked her door and was flipping through TV stations when someone tried to open her door. She knew it wasn't Happy, he always knocked, so she scooted to the head of her bed afraid of what was happening outside her room.

A minute or so later, whoever it was left. She finally found a show she was interested in, not used to having TV since she'd been homeless for the last four years, and had lost track of time. There suddenly came a knock at the door and Happy telling her to open up. She sighed wondering what he could want now. Sliding off the bed, she pondered telling him to go away but found herself opening the door anyways. He gave a half smile as he walked into her room. Tig noticed as he was exciting the bathroom and raised an eyebrow. 'Why's Happy going into Angelika's room?' he thought as he walked back to his seat.

"Hey. I just watched Happy go into Angelika's room. What's up with that?" Tig questioned Chibs.

"Don' know." Chibs shrugged.

"Think he's trying to stake a claim?" Tig asked.

"Could be. 'e does seem t' be a lil' sweet on 'er." Chibs commented.

"Huh. The Killah with a soft spot." Tig laughed making Chibs smile as he lit up a smoke.

"Leave the lad alone. She seems t' be opening up t' 'im which is a feat apparently." Chibs explained, "Doesn't want t' betray the trust 'e's built already."

"I wonder what she's hiding then if she won't talk to anyone but a vicious killer." Tig pondered, "Think she's killed someone?"

"That sweet lass? Probably not." Chibs shook his head as he sat back in his chair.
