Chapter 12: Partners In Crime
Saya smiled to herself as she slipped on her black and red wolf mask and adjusted her black, leather, fingerless gloves. This was going to be fun.
“Saya? You ready to go Babe.” Logan asked, his voice coming through the earpiece in Saya’s ear clearly.
“Roger.” Saya said, grinning to herself.
“Okay great! You know the plan?” He asked.
“Yup! Break into school using the staircase window between the first and second floor, first stop is the computer lab. Once there I plug in the wireless transmitter into the main computers USB port and you set to work crashing the system and ruining the mainframe’s hard drive. Next I go to the security room where you reset the interior camera’s settings to be on a 24-hour overlay-loop so that every day their memory gets wiped clear and they start to re-write themselves. After that I hit Mr. Dayton’s office and take the tapes after I crack the safe he is keeping the spare in.” She reeled off.
“That’s right.” Logan confirmed.
“Great, so can we get this party started already?” She asked. Logan laughed and nodded.
“Yes.” He added once he realized she couldn’t see him.
“Sweet.” She said excitedly, her grin practically audible.
Logan watched from one of the exterior cameras on the grounds as Saya unclipped a staff from her backpack and twirled it gleefully. He knew that she missed her old life, but until now it had never occurred to him that theft might be included in that. He had always just assumed that she did it because it was how she was raised, never that it was because she honestly enjoyed it.
He watched her take a running start at the 7 foot tall wrought-iron fence and spring lightly over it, her right hand landing lightly on the bar between 2 massive spikes before pushing herself off of it and landing lightly on the other side. It was truly something to watch.
She moved swiftly across the lawn staying in the shadows and trees whenever she could. She leapt into the air, the hook at the end of her staff catching on a tree branch and swinging herself easily onto the window ledge. He had to admit, it did look like fun.
“I’m in the lab.” She said a few minutes later. Logan checked the computer screen next to him and nodded.
“Ya Babe, the information is coming in now, this shouldn’t take too long.” He said, bending over his macbook and setting to work. It was true that he wasn’t a genius at hacking, not like Saya’s mother, but he was considerably more skilled than Saya was, a feat in and of itself.
“Done,” He said as the screen went black. “The system should be fried by tomorrow.”
“Great!” Saya said, taking the transmitter and making her way to the Security Room. She scowled when she arrived, the door was locked.
Saya reached into her backpack and pulled out a knife, placing it in the key hole and wheedling it back and forth until she heard the door click quietly.
“Hey did you hear that?” A man asked. Saya tensed and leapt away from the door, crouching down in a corner and pulling her black hooded half-clock around her to blend in.
“I’ll go check it out.” One of them men said, leaving the room and looking around.
“I don’t see anything.” He said.
“Check the lock.” The other man said. The guard did as he was told and turned the outside knob, frowning when it didn’t resist the movement.
Saya moved quickly, leaping forward and knocking the man’s feet out from under him and pulling him silently into the shadows with her staff. She reached into her bag and pulling out a damp handkerchief and covering his mouth and nose with it. The man stopped struggling instantly and began to relax, his eyelids growing heavy. Saya smiled and sat him in the shaded corner.
“Don’t worry,” She whispered as the man struggled to stay awake. “It’s just some strong natural sedatives, you should be fine in a few hours.”
The man grunted in response and she smiled, turning back towards the door.
“Curt?” The second guard asked, stepping out of the room and looking for his comrade.
“Curt!” He said as he spotted the man on the ground. He rushed to the man’s side and Saya took her chance, moving quickly into the room and placing the transmitter into a free USB port.
“Hurry up Tatsu.” Saya whispered.
“Tatsu?” Logan asked.
“It’s a generic name for Japanese dragons,” Saya explained as she watched the pointer move of it’s own accord across the screen. “There is a guard right outside, I don’t want him to know our real names if he overhears us.”
“Oh.” Logan said.
“Okay Wolf, you’re free to move again.” He said when he finished resetting the cameras.
“Great!” Saya said, getting to her feet.
“What the?”
Saya scowled, the voice was coming from right behind the door. She heard the tell-tale sound of keys jingling as the man fumbled to open the door and rolled her eyes. She hopped up on the table and pushed one of the ceiling tiles aside, clambering up and replacing it just as the door opened.
Saya sighed and began to move carefully across the thin material, careful to keep quiet.
“Are you okay?” Logan asked.
“I’m fine.” Saya said as she dropped back into one of the older wings of the school that didn’t have cameras.
“Good, then get a move on. You probably don’t have much time left.” He said. Saya nodded in agreement and hurried to Mr. Dayton’s office, careful to keep in the camera’s blind spots.
“Hmm.” She said, scowling at the safe.
“What?” Logan asked.
“Nothing,” Saya said. “This is just a nice safe, it must have cost a small fortune. He’s gonna be really pissed when he learns how much money he wasted.”
Logan chucked and shook his head. You could always count on Saya to enjoy the frustration of others.
After a few minutes of working the lock she finally managed to crack the safe. As she opened it a flash went off and she smiled behind her mask, how predictable. She took the tape and in it’s place left a porcelain red and white wolf before slipping out of the window and working her way down the building.
“That was brilliant Doll.” Logan said as she slipped into the seat next to him. She sighed wistfully and looked up at the full moon, grinning.
“How appropriate,” She said thoughtfully. “A full moon on the night of The Wolf’s return.”
Logan grinned at her and pulled her over for a quick kiss before stepping on the gas.
“And her new partner.” He reminded her. She beamed at him and nodded.
“And my new partner.” She agreed before taking a deep breath and howling at the moon.
“Sorry,” She said with a grin. “But I just couldn’t help myself.”
Logan laughed and shook his head. It seemed like that was their catch-phrase now days.
[A/N: ^^ Well guys, I’m gonna say this now and fess up, while writing this I was heavily influenced by my love of one of my favorite video games (second only to Okami) Sly Cooper. I’m not saying I copied anything but Sly is where I was first introduced to the idea of a high class thief and as such my ideas are influenced by it. Anyhow, I hope that you liked this chapter!
