[A/N: So it's that time again! The author I have dedicated this chapter too is another great one with an awesome and well written student/teacher story that you're sure to love called Don't Let Go!]

Chapter 2: A Fun Beginning

It was truly disheartening, Saya thought, to have finally escaped the private school system, only to be thrown back in at the first opportunity. She sighed warily and got off her motorcycle, turning as she did so to face the imposing brick building that was her new school.

Scarlet Academy was a small private high school located in the mountains of North Carolina; it had 600 students, 40 teachers, 20 non-teaching staff members, 4 vice-principles, and 1 principle.

The campus stretched a for several acres, only a few of which were used, and included the main building, gym, football field and track, soccer field, housing for foreign exchange and boarding students, stables, and a variety of other miscellaneous buildings. The rest of the campus was covered by fairly dense forest, and a high wrought-iron fence that surrounded the grounds. To enter through the main gate you had to either scan your school ID at the gate or use the intercom to contact the main office so they could buzz you in. A very tedious procedure which made entering and exiting the campus a very lengthy process at the beginning or end of the day, and another reason Saya was glad she had early out.

Saya was brought out of her thoughts by the ringing of the late bell and sighed again. Time ... she despised it so.

“Nice bike.” Someone said from behind. Saya jumped and spun quickly on her heel to face the stranger, her shoulders squared and her eyes narrowed. The face she was met with was not one she would have expected. The man was handsome in a rugged, rough around the edges type of way. He had black messy hair that seemed to spike of its own accord and strong features. His eyes, a cold and calculating grey, looked Saya over as he took a drag from the cigarette he held loosely between his fingers.

“My name is Logan Howlett. I teach European History and Literature here, and you are?” He said in a gruff but eloquent voice that complemented his appearance nicely. Saya relaxed slightly and extended her hand to him.

“My name is Saya Dwight, I’m new here. It’s nice to meet you.” He took her hand and shook it before walking towards the building and motioning for her to follow.

“What class do you have first?” He asked as they entered the school. She rummaged through her book-bag and pulled out her class schedule, scowling at it as she looked for her first period class on Monday.

“Um,” She paused when she found it and looked up at him, surprised. “Yours.”

“Ah,” He said nodding and holding open a door for her. “In that case, don’t be late again.” Saya grinned and walked through the door, surprised to find herself in the classroom.

“Well, as you can all see,” Logan said putting his briefcase down on his desk and addressing the class. “We have a new student. This is Saya, she’s gonna be with us for the rest of the year and possibly summer vacation if she’s as lazy as some of you slackers.” The class tittered and Saya offered them a half-hearted grin.

“Well Saya we don’t really have assigned seats, if you bother me I just kick you out so there has never really been a need for it, so you can sit where you like.” He said half-sitting on his desk and smirking at her. Saya raised an eyebrow and looked around the classroom, there was only one vacant seat and she took it, sitting down in the cushy chair behind the large mahogany desk at the front of the room on which her teacher was currently sitting. Logan chuckled and stood up, raising his eyebrow to match hers.

“Oh, your going to be a fun one I see.” Saya grinned at him cheekily and shrugged.

 “I have my moments.”

The rest of the day was much less compelling, her other 3 classes consisted of Algebra 2, Spanish 1, and Chemistry. For the most part her teachers were nice, if not a little mundane, and her classmates quiet but scrutinizing. It was exactly how she had expected it to be.

“So, good first day?” A familiar voice asked her when she had reached her motorcycle. Saya smiled at the man and shrugged.

“Could have been better,” She said as she got on the bike. “My History teacher is a bit of a bastard but he’s alright. My other teachers are pretty dull though.” Logan’s short barking laughter echoed across the parking lot, drawing a few students attention and he grinned at her.

 “Oh ya?” He asked.

“Ya, he’s not bad on the eyes either. If it weren’t for his personality I’m sure he’d be a real heartthrob.” Saya said grinning back at him and winking before putting on her helmet. Logan chuckled to himself and shook his head as he watched Saya disappear through the main gate. Fun indeed.

A/N: Well folks now you have met the two main characters. Saya Dwight and Logan Howlett. Now, because I don’t generally like to go into too much detail describing my characters appearances, I thought I’d offer you an idea of how I see them. While I didn’t realize it at the time Saya is an almost exact match of the character Blue from the anime Wolf’s Rain with 2 exceptions: Her skin, while tan, is not as dark as Blues, and her eyes are silver, not blue. And you can see a picture of her next to the first chapter! Logan to me looks similar to Takayama from Witchblade, and his picture is next to this chapter! HOWEVER, these characters are open to the interpretation of the reader! You may see them in any which way you desire, that is part of the reason why I try not to be too specific about their looks.
