Not Normal People

Evyr's POV

When the jet landed, Auri still had her arms around me. She walked me side by side out into the unbearable bright light of day. I looked around.

We weren't on the ground, we were on a platform hundreds of feet above the ground that was attached to a giant tower. Auri's metal arm wrapped around me as I looked around frantically.

"It's gonna be alright," she said to me. I nodded, finding it a little hard to breathe with the wind whipping my hair all over the place. I tightened my grip around her flesh hand.

A bald African American man with an eye patch and a trench coat approached us. He gave Auri a curt nod and then directed his one eye at me.

"Hello Ms. Green,"he said in a slightly raspy voice. "I trust you were treated well on the trip here."

I nodded, unsure if I should actually answer. I guess I didn't, because he immediately turned away and walked into the door to the tower. Auri took me inside, followed by the rest of the group that took me.

"You're gonna meet the rest of my team now, okay?" Auri spoke to me softly, as if I were a sick child.

    "Okay."

The man named Steve took the lead and led us through the halls and to an elevator. It was a glass elevator. I could see the whole city from here, and I saw my reflection in the glass. I looked terrible.

"Ew, why do I look like that?" I asked.

My hair was all tangled, and my face was splotchy. All I was wearing was a black t-shirt and spandex leggings. Not my best look for meeting new people.

"Eh, they don't care what you look like," Auri said with a smirk on her face. "When I first came here, I was barely conscious and covered in blood. I couldn't even walk and was definitely way worse than you are now."

I smiled at the thought of Auri not being able to walk. She was always a real challenge for me whenever we fought together. I remembered the one time that I stabbed her with a staff, and chuckled.

"Remember that one time I stabbed you?"

She giggled, and I heard a couple from the people in the elevator too. "Yeah I remember. I'm still pissed that I've never beaten you. I'll fix that soon."

"You wish. I'll still beat you."

    "Nah."

The elevator doors opened and we all walked into a really nice lobby. There were a bunch of leather chairs, and granite counter tops with a full kitchen, it was like an amazing studio apartment. Sitting on those leather chairs were three men.

Or two men and something that looked like a man but didn't feel like a man. He was red and had navy-ish stripes all over his body, with a gold cape. He had a giant yellow rock on his forehead. His energy wasn't human at all, I had never felt something like this before.

The man with goatee facial hair and a glowing chest got up and sauntered toward us. He was off too. Why were all these people not normal?

As he got closer, his energy became weirder and weirder. I squirmed under Auri's metal arm, but she held me in place.

    "It's okay, it's okay."

"No!" I blurted. "Don't come any closer!"

The man stopped, his confident smile still plastered on his face.

"Now that's not something I hear very often," he said. He had a pen in his hand that he was fiddling with.

"This is Tony Stark," Auri introduced him. "He's really annoying, but he's harmless. He can't hurt you even if he tried."

"Woah!" He acted offended, but didn't seem to really care. Auri pointed to the red man still on the couch.

"That's Vision over there, he's really sweet and he'll answer any question you ask him. He used to be a robot."

"Ohhhh, I thought he was weird," I looked at Auri for a second, and when I looked back, Vision was FLOATING OVER TO US.

Now this was when I completely broke free of Auriana and put my hands up in defense.

    "Stay back!"

His feet lowered to the ground and his skin CHANGED to NORMAL SKIN.

"OH MY GOD! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU!"

Everyone in the room was now ready to fight me. Wanda even had something coming out of her hands, her eyes had turned to a luminescent red.

"WHAT is happening to you?" I shrieked and backed up a step. I spotted a small potted tree to my left and stepped toward it, keeping my eyes on everyone else.

"Ev,"Auriana approached me cautiously. "It's alright, we aren't going to hurt you."

"WHO the HELL are you people?"

I stepped again toward the plant. It was a real magnolia tree with some buds close to blossoming.

"Evyr, we're the Avengers. We'll keep you safe from HYDRA, we'll help you."

Every step I took, Auriana matched with her own.

    "Help me do what?"

"We'll help you develop, we'll help you fight them."

I got to the tree and grabbed a branch.

"Evyr please we're here to help! Don't do it, please."

    Tony looked at her dumbfounded.

"What's so wrong with her grabbing the tree?"

I took a deep breath and ripped the branch off the tree.

Hey y'all! I'm trying a new thing where I add spacing between the paragraphs, let me know if y'all like it or not!
