"You are..."

Good spirits. I wasn't ready for this at all.

"A noble that is far beyond your standing and comprehension, and thus you should know your place when dirtying her dress."

Gah!!! Lily!!! Please stop, this was one of the individuals that truly had the capability to match you in combat several years down the road, you know...Yeah who was I kidding. The force of nature that was Lily the maid could not be beaten even by the strength of all the male leads and the heroine herself combined. Her dance of death was something truly terrifying to behold, even behind a computer screen.

To put it simply, one should understand just how much force is put behind the swinging of chains if it is enough to decapitate fully grown monsters. And no, that wasn't an euphemism for the adult male leads, as much as I would like it to be so.

Even so! White here was the more combat capable of the bunch! It just so happens he was the easiest to offend, by extension of simply being a noble in front of him!

Even though he was supposed to hate me, yes, but his hatred was hard to control. It was difficult to gauge when too much hate was, well, too much.

"In a rush, aren't you?" I muttered something that could be interpreted both ways. "If you always move that fast in life, you might miss out on all the flowers."

"You...!"

"Yes, me. Indeed, it is I, the inevitable Duchess of Bathory. You have some business with me?"

From his expression, he had likely deduced my identity from the crest emblazoned onto the sides of my carriage. His hatred couldn't be helped, with my territory being the closest to the Sakura Empire, not to mention it literally borders the fringe area of where White was from.

Historically speaking, Elizabeth me's family was responsible for the defense of the Kingdom's borders. Due to that, our prestige and authority were, at times, even stronger than princes and princess that were not heir to the throne.

That was, of course, only during times of war. It was a family that built its name in blood. Drenched and soaked in a sea of gore that flowed in from all different directions, that was the truth of the matter. As such, one could say the Bathory family was hated from all sides...yet respected.

But for the individual who saw his childhood friend be burdened by the artifact of the Bathory family, surely nothing in his mind would amount to respect. Even if I would argue Elizabeth me was the one who got screwed over by that end of the transaction, I suppose even the world would eventually side with Rin me somehow. Such was the gift of being the heroine.

"So it's because of you, Rin was...!"

Are you really going to do this out here, White!? Everyone was staring! Have some shame, damn it! I was getting embarrassed simply by having so many eyes on me! I may very well be guilty of the evils you accuse me of, but at least do it with some grace, for all that was sacred.

Come on, please, I just needed a few seconds. Be swallowed by your anger for just a few more seconds, my legs were moving as fast as they could...! Well, two of them, at least.

"Oh my? You never wrote, so I thought you were dead. To think you're spending time with miss Elizabeth of all people. You've moved up in the world since we last met, Shiro."

"The name is White! Wait, that snarky voice..." his anger quickly dissipated as soon as he heard a voice from his childhood. "Rin!"

"Been a while, hm?"

It was a strange feeling, frankly. Although I did not have much time to think about him due to the absolute chaos that was my childhood years, the sight of a familiar face from home was...a gentle comfort.
