Where do I even begin? Pitiful. He was too pitiful. Perhaps it was because I had the capability to read between the lines that he appeared pitiable, but it was still nevertheless slightly comical. A bit sad, but mildly amusing when all was said and done.

"You're back, Your Highness," that was all I could say while suppressing a grin of pity.

"And what exactly are you doing?" ignoring any sort of greeting conventions, he immediately demanded me of something.

A great start to our conversation, to be honest.

"This humble one is merely attending to her garden," I replied in the most submissive manner possible.

Say what you will about the life of an aristocrat, but their routine sure was relaxing. Although trimming flowers was hardly my cup of tea, but it was undeniably relaxing. I still would get restless if I did it for too long, however.

"Hard working for a six-year-old," he scoffed.

I was five though.

"Lily, won't you prepare us some tea?" I requested in order to breathe new life into the conversation

"Certainly," Lily bowed to both of us, before departing towards the kitchen.

I said politely, "I suggest we sit in the gazebo where there's a shade, Your Highness."

It bugged me that I was being so meek, but I sure as hell wasn't going to allow a second happening of our previous meeting.

"I shall allow it," he agreed pridefully.

We quickly settled down in the pavilion, although the prince was still looking around with a pair of steeled eyes. A couple of his escorts attempted to offer him some comfort like a towel, but they were all shooed away.

"You plan to waste your life away here?" he asked. "It seems horribly boring, wouldn't you agree?"

The prince's words were not like the snarky mockery of the previous meeting, but genuine questions. It may be difficult to recognize it as such, since his pride had twisted it into such a negative manner. However, the gaze in his eyes were honest, a rare emotion for someone like him.

He supplemented his question with additional context, "It is not often that I see nobles who would let such humiliation lie. Yet...you approach your days with unnatural composure. Either you're extremely good at hiding your inner hatred, or you're simply too meek to seek conflict."

For the sake of the plot, please assume it is the first, yeah? Please do.

"What will blind rage do? It is wasteful," I replied with something that could be interpreted either way.

"Heh..." he gave me a devious smile. "You are a sly one. Mother said girls like you will never grow up to become something good. Then again, father did say mother was too honest to be a queen."

You were right on that bit, Your Highness. For the sake of the lives of the many, this body will become a demon. A demon that perhaps you would someday slay. Hopefully not though. Let's reach a happy ending where everyone is alive, yeah?

The prince rested his fist on his chin, "So, what will you do from here on? Plan for revenge? Simply rot out here? Even though your father seems to think differently, but it is clear that you will not. You are far too...different for that."

"What makes you think so, Your Highness?" I was genuinely confused over how he had reached such a conclusion.

"Why, because father decided to arrange an engagement between you and I."
