I know you’re used to Mute being in first person

Just for a little I’ll write in 3rd person.

Chapter Ten

Mute Speaks

The shocking realization that Mute, has spoken shocked both Dusk and Lenin. Mute coughed uncontrollably from the sudden explosion of words coming from his mouth. Dusk moved ahead and gave him a gentle pat on the back while Lenin stared into space.

“That was pretty damn loud kiddo!” Dusk laughed and ruffled Mute’s hair. Mute took a deep breath and his coughing came to a halt. “Also you sound as if you’re finally hitting puberty! Who knows you might shoot up to my height.”

“You…” Lenin finally comes to his senses. “You.”

“Call me by my name.” Mute tells him stepping closer to Lenin and shoving a finger into his chest. “Say my name.”

Lenin closed his eyes for a moment as if searching for his name somewhere in his memory. Nobody has called him by his name. Nobody has called his name for such a long time. He thought back, before they moved out of the house, before Lenin fought with his father, before they fed him behind their father’s back, before the abuse, before the blame and before everything went bad. What was his name?

“Adriel.” Lenin whispered. The name sounded foreign on his tongue.

“Doesn’t that mean, God’s follower or something?” Dusk asked looking at Lenin. “Ah, you naughty boy!” Dusk pokes Adriel on the nose. “You were smoking earlier!”

Adriel’s eyes widen and shake his head violently at Dusk.

“Smoking?” Lenin hisses. “Who said you could smoke?” He glared at Adriel. Adriel hid behind Dusk, all his sudden confidence disappearing again.

“He was in a pissy mood so I gave him a puff.” Dusk nods happily. “Cooled him off that’s for sure!”

“You shit! He’s thirteen years old!” Lenin snapped and threw a punch at Dusk who easily moved his head out of the way. “Come on we are going home, you haven’t eaten.” Lenin grabbed Adriel and dragged him back to the apartment which wasn’t very far away.

Adriel’s POV

“What made you so mad that you decided to run away this morning without breakfast?” Lenin asked his hand still holding my hand tightly. “Are you hungry?” He didn’t sound very angry so I relax a little. His expression was hard to read.

“…” I reach up and touch my throat. I spoke today. It’s been years since I’ve said anything. I was surprised at the sound of my own voice. Something I wasn’t used to, like it wasn’t even mine.

“Are you going to tell me why you are acting this way?” Lenin stops in front of the apartment’s gate and tilt his head to look at me. I could feel the warm blood rush to my cheeks. How could I tell him that I was angry because I saw what he and Tommy were doing this morning? And was it even something I should be upset about?

“I..” I drop my hand to my side and took a deep breath. “Don’t like when Tommy touches you!”

“By any chance, did you see what happened his morning?” Lenin tightened his grip on my hand. What would he do if I said yes? Would he be upset with me? I think about it. He was still able to smile so brightly even after what happened.

“...” I nod once and Lenin grabbed both of my shoulders, determined look on his face.

“That’s the reason you’re angry?”
