Chapter Thirteen

Addition to the Brother Collection

14 Years old

There was defiantly a hint of a smile on Tommy's face that morning. It didn't irritate me as much as it usually does; the only thing I want is for him to let me see Lenin and hug him whenever I want. Lenin finally was able to quit his second job since both Tommy and Hearn started working their part time jobs. The great part about Tommy having a job is that, he works when Lenin is off. It gives me the best opportunity to snuggle up and watch a movie with my big brother. The more time I spent with Lenin the less I ached to see him. Since he's always around now I don't feel upset when Tommy comes home and keeps him all to himself. I did spend the whole afternoon with Lenin, so I'm pretty satisfied. Thus, the drama in the house is down to a minimum. I do tease Tommy once in a while and kiss Lenin's cheek when I know he's looking.

"I'm leaving now." Hearn dressed in his uniform for a restaurant he worked for. He's sixteen now and is able to work for him own money. It was nice of him to get me a cool new watch for my fourteenth birthday, I never take it off. He hasn't been walking me to or from school anymore. Ever since that time we had that fight it's been pretty awkward.

"Be safe." I still treasure every moment we spend together though. When he got me a gift I was surprised, I thought he was still mad at me. When I thanked him he just waved me off and went to work. Lenin told me he's a workaholic and that Hearn wants go straight to a career focused school where you learn on the job. It seemed like a good idea to me.

"Hey, go to school already." Tommy demands handing me a brown paper bag, making me peek in and cringe. Ham sandwich again? How can he eat this stuff every day. I get sick of something if I eat it all the time, tommy is so weird.

"Can't you just give me money so I can eat the school lunches?" I ask him rolling the bag closed. Tommy folds his arms. Just like he does every time I ask him about money and hinting I'm tired of the food he gives me. "I mean, even the school lunch is better than yours."

"You complain too much. I liked it better when you were quiet." Tommy says, since I've talked in front of him I notice it annoys him so I'm now a non-stop talker. I just talk and talk and talk, stating the obvious just to annoy him.

"You don't like when I speak? Like all the time?" I raise my voice. "You DON'T LIKE MY VOICE." Tommy grunted and pushed me towards the door. I grin to myself in victory. I managed to annoy him again! As I was pushed and locked out of the apartment Dusk is standing outside waiting for me. I smile and greet him in my still very loud voice.

Dusk has become my best friend and we hang out under the bleachers, sometimes I get the urge to be bad, so I ask him for one of his cigarettes. I never finish it; it makes me look more mature. If it were possible Dusk got even taller and more stunning. He also continued to harass the guys in our gym class. He was so open about being bi, that even the guys didn't care anymore and just played along with him. He has been my idol for a while now.

"Shut up." He covers my mouth and smiles. "You used to be such an innocent cutie what the hell happened to you?" He joked.

"I can see the world clearly now." I say using big hand gestures messing around. I expand my arms. "I know how to survive in this world I see it all!" Dusk rolled his eyes and we continued to the school. I'm fourteen now so it's my last year in middle school. Even though we share lunches and the gym I'll be able to hang out with Dusk even more, once I enter his school as a freshman.

16 Years old.

My birthday was pretty boring this year since everyone was working. Dusk lived off his rich parents so he had time to spend with me. The past year nothing happened. Everything had been the same as usual up to now. Well, I did grow a lot taller, developed a "V" shaped body since my shoulders are wide and yet still slim. Dusk was pretty lean all the way around so I thought he was freaking perfect especially since girls were hitting on him instead of me.

"Hey, am I ugly?" I asked Dusk while as he sips on his juice pouch. He really had a thing with those juice pouches. The response I got was a side glance and a shrug, however because I didn't know what that meant I elbow him in the ribs. "What the heck does that mean?"

"Argh." He coughed and elbowed me back. He wiped his mouth and put his juice pouch down on the bleacher seat. "Why are yer asking this all of a sudden? You got someone you like, who isn't paying yah any mind?"

"No, that's not it." I make a face and nod towards a small group of girls on the other side of the bleachers. "You have admirers." Dusk didn't even glance over at them. He made that bored looking face at me and leaned back on the bleachers remaining his cool.

"You can have them, they are so annoying, and this is why I rather hang out with guys. They don't whine about me saying rude things to them." Dusk says giving me a serious look. "I hate women."

"That's kind of a harsh thing to say about that gender, they are just a little sensitive about the things you say." I tell him nudging him with my elbow. "Besides you're gay aren't you, have you given up on Lenin yet?"

"I flirt with everyone, he isn't special to me." Dusk picked up his juice pouch and sip through the straw again. I don't know how he can make everything he does look cool. He always has this side of him that makes people want to just watch him from afar. Minus the people who got used to sitting with us at lunch.

"Wait, you didn't answer my question!" I smack his arm making him jump.

"Alright!" Dusk rolled his eyes and tossed his now empty juice pouch into the trash a couple of feet away. "You ain't bad lookin aight, just because nobody has openly told you how they felt dun mean they dun like you."

"Your English is all messed up now." I tap his shoulder reassuringly. "And I thought I'm bad."

Dusk grinned. "My writing sure is a lot better than yours."

"Shut up I'm still getting the hang of it alright." I look into the track field and watched the runners jump over bars and stuff. It was pretty interesting to watch. I didn't even know people could run so fast. We sure are a slow species.

"Dusk!" Someone shouted stomping his feet all the way across the field toward us. Dusk sighed and turned his head toward me trying to make conversation. "Don't ignore me you creep!" It was a blonde guy maybe a few inches shorter than Dusk. They did share similarities in the face.

"Go away, Kaiden." Dusk hissed as the other male finally reaches us. He looked like one of the runners. "I told you not to bother me at school."

"Do I look like I listen to anything you say?" He asked tilting his head as if waiting for dusk to answer. Dusk only sighed in irritation. "Anyway, mom is asking if you're going to stay at dad's this weekend?"

"Can't you ask me that at home?" Dusk replied rather harshly.

"No, because I have somewhere to go after school, anyway are you going or not?" He propped a hand on his waist and raised a brow. Talk about being sassy. "Hurry up I don't have all day."

"Are you going?" Dusk asks looking like he's going to die of boredom.

"Yeah, I'll be there." Kaiden uses the towel around his neck and wipe the sweat off his face. "You should come even if you don't want to. Dad has something he wants to tell us."

Dusk's expression hardens as he sits up properly. "Fine, but I'm taking Adriel with me." Hearing my name I perk back to life and gawk at Dusk. I haven't even asked Lenin and he already made his own plans?

"What who is Adriel?" Kaiden turned his attention to me and extended his hand. "You, it's nice to meet a friend of my brothers." Dusk's brother, I thought he was an only child. Since when did he magically have a brother? "He's my half-brother only born from the same mother. He's ashamed of me and won't speak to me in public."

I take his hand awkwardly listening to the unnecessary information I had acquired. "I... I'm Adriel, just a friend." I match his introduction weakly.

"Stop creeping out my friends jock face." Dusk stands up and karate chops our hands making me let go and pull my hand back to the safety of my own space. "Come on, Mute." He called for me as he started walking. I grab my bag and wave to his brother as I follow him across the field back toward the main building.

Kaiden just waved back letting us run away.
