They walked away, with their large bags around all of their backs.

I didn't think much of it, as it was just a local band.
I rotated my head to the left and saw the traffic light go green.
I could see my mom's car pulling up to the side of the road, a few meters down.

I stood up from my seat and walked my way over to her car. I placed my hand on the door in the front, and swung it wide open, while I slid myself in.

"Thanks, mom," I mumbled as I slammed the door shut behind me.

"Of course." she replied, followed by a large yawn, as her foot pounded against the pedal.

"So," I mention, "when are we going to see dad?"

"Whenever you wanna go, he just had more treatment yesterday but I'm hoping he's okay now." she says, sliding her hand along the wheel.

"Oh, ok." I finish off, leaning my head against the window.
I felt every pebble we drove across, with the street lights blazing into my eyes.

All in silence.

We sat at ease, as we pulled up to our apartment complex.

We had been living in this complex for around 5 years. Ever since my dad got diagnosed, he wasn't home much, and it was close to the hospital.
He has stage 3 lung cancer.

He was a smoker, almost a pack every day.
He didn't care what happened to himself, but we did. We tried to make him stop, but he never did, and these were the consequences.

He's barely been home, as he needs to stay in the hospital. I care so much about him, but it's a miracle he's been around for this long.

We just pulled into the parking lot, and made our way to our room, on the 16th. It had an amazing view of the parts of New York, you could even see the club from here, out on the balcony. All the colourful lights from the other tall, towers.

We walked into our room, and I closed the door behind us. There were 2 bedrooms, one was mine, and the other was my mom's.
I was a single child, and I was 20. No college for me. I didn't feel it was necessary, as I had a part-time job at a local coffee shop. A pretty popular one too.

"I'm gonna go to sleep, make sure you eat something if you haven't yet." my mom stated, stumbling her way off to her room.

"Okay, love you!" I exclaimed as I hung my jacket up on the wall.

"I love you too hun." she retorts, closing her door behind her.

I shook my shoes off and made my way to our kitchen. My stomach was growling, all I ever did was drink.

I began to scour through our fridge, until I found something that was, edible.

It was leftovers. Leftover pasta from 3 days ago, which seemed to still look completely untouched.
I didn't feel like heating it, so I got a utensil, and sat my way to the couch.

I plopped down on it, and turned the TV on, turning the volume down, to not disturb my mom.

I flipped the channels until I got to my favourite channel.
And they had my favourite show on too, shameless.

That show made me feel very comfortable, so I grabbed the nearest blanket and wrapped it around me, with my container of food in my lap.

I stuffed my face with the pasta, while my eyes intensely stared at the TV.

I was enjoying every bit until my phone went off.
I didn't remember having any notifications on, so I questioned and grabbed my phone.

OH! A reminder, I forgot about that.
