Chapter Three
My heart beats fast, the silence is eerie. I try to reach out to Adric in my mind but it doesn't work. Adric, what's happening? Are you okay?
Nothing.
A purple glowing light glows in the palm of my hands. At first I'm confused but then I accept it. It's not the strangest thing that's happened today. I hold out my hands in front of me and use them as a flash light. I look around to find that I'm completely alone. No Brian, no Beverley, no Lucifer, no Adric, no anyone. "Hello?" I call out.
Nothing, just more silence.
"Why me?" I mutter to myself before walking forward, into the almost pitch black. I walk for what seems like a few hours, I still don't find anyone. I begin to think that maybe I'm just going insane and everything that has happened is just an illusion of my crazed mind. I push away the thought and continue to walk for a few more hours. I wish Chip was with me, and then I would be able to know how long I've walked for. He must have an internal clock in his brain or something. I wonder what Brian is doing right now. Maybe he's looking for me. Of course he is looking for me, he promised he would. Brian? Are you there? I know he hates it when I talk to him like this but I need to know if he can hear me.
Nothing.
"Brian!" I yell.
Still nothing.
"Scarlet?" A quiet voice calls to me.
"Who's there?" I whip around and hold out my hands.
"It's me." Adric steps out into the dim purple light.
"What happened? Where did everyone go?" I ask.
"I don't know, the last time this never happened."
"Well what happened last time?" My voice quivers but I contain it.
He ignores my question. "This is wrong." He runs his hands through his hair. "We need to find Chip. He can probably help us find out what's going on."
Can you hear me? I ask.
He says nothing. "Did you hear that?" I ask aloud.
"Hear what?"
"I just tried to talk to you."
"I didn't hear a thing. Maybe there's like something preventing us from using our powers."
"Then what do you call this?" I hold up my hand and show him the bright purple light.
He holds up his hand as well to reveal the same purple glowing light. He takes my hand in his and the two lights connect. A purple barrier forms around us, the same barrier that surrounded Lucifer and I. "You're more powerful than I thought." A grin forms on his face.
"What?" I ask.
He lets go of my hands but unlike last time, the barrier stays. He twirls his index finger over the palm of his hand and a shining red apple appears in his hands. "Try and through this to the side of the barrier."
I concentrate on the apple, I think about it hitting against the glowing, impossible barrier. The apple goes flying with incredible force against the barrier and bounces off it. The apple rolls onto the floor, burned to the core. "Wow." I say.
"Oh, god. I'm gonna regret this." He extends his hand and touches the barrier, it zaps him. "Oooouch!" He blows on his hand.
"What'd you do that for?"
