She was as beautiful as the sun. That was all the girl would say when questioned about her old friend. They thought it was sweet, the way the girl remembered her. She knew otherwise.

The girl couldn't look at her without hurting. She complained when she was too bright and whined when she was too dim. She only truly appreciated her when she was leaving, too far gone to pull back. The sun had disappeared, the day come to its end. Then the moon rose, the night claiming the sky, all the girl could think was that she missed her sun.

She tried everything to bring her back. Nothing worked. Eventually, the girl gave up. She was tired and depressed and angry, because the sun always leaves at the end of the day. Why should hers be any different?
