After another long day, the four members of Fleetwood Mac sat down together for a drink or two. Or three or four. Without Harry around, Stevie was able to relax a bit at last. Lindsey could tell that she had put the dream of them as a family aside for the time being. He wasn't sure yet if that was a good or a bad thing, however, the walls she'd built around herself didn't seem as thick anymore.
Lindsey was having a hard time, trying to put his finger on it, but something had changed. There had always been that pull between him and Stevie, but for whatever reason, the feeling was becoming increasingly stronger. Maybe it was just being in the studio together again as it had always been one of the things Lindsey cherished the most. There was no denying that when Buckingham and Nicks created music - they created magic. It had to be that.
"I've become such a lightweight." Stevie leaned forward to put her empty glass on the table in front of her. "I can't handle more than a couple of glasses of wine anymore."
"I think, it's safe to say that we'd all consumed the amount of alcohol, among other things, for a few lifetimes years ago." Mick laughed, feeling a bit tipsy himself.
"This has been fun, but I'm gonna call it a night." Stevie shielded her mouth as she yawned. "I won't hear the end of it if I'm not down here by 10 am."
"You know, what? I'm going as well." Lindsey stretched in his seat before getting up on his feet. "I'm quite beat."
Leaving Mick and John, Stevie and Lindsey climbed the stairs, their feet dragging a bit. They didn't share a word, afraid of the consequences. When they reached her room first, they both stopped, smiling at each other somewhat nervously.
"Goodnight then." Stevie spoke up, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Goodnight, Steph." Lindsey cupped her face and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "Sleep tight."
Walking into her bedroom, Stevie closed the door behind her with a sigh. She leaned up against it and brought her hand up to the spot Lindsey had just kissed, she closed her eyes. She hated, how good it still felt, more than that, she hated, how much she'd missed it. Taking a deep breath, she shook herself mentally and pushed herself forward to begin her nightly routine. Tying her hair up in a messy bun, she took a quick shower first, wanting to wash the day away. She then made sure to apply her favorite lotion on her skin, before reaching for her face cream. Lastly, she slipped into her silky nightgown and got comfortable in the massive bed. She tried not to think, how small she felt in it alone.
It could have been ten, fifteen minutes or a full hour, Stevie struggled falling asleep. Her mind was occupied with Harry for a short while, hoping he wasn't causing too much trouble, before her thoughts eventually drifted to Lindsey. They hadn't been in the studio for a very long time yet, but he was somehow different. She was used to his raised tone of voice, she was used to his subtle eyerolls and quiet sighs. None of that had happened yet. He was strangely easy to deal with. She thought, he was simply excited about the new Fleetwood Mac album. It had to be that. Their usual problems were bound to return at some point.
In the room next to Stevie's, Lindsey had been tossing and turning for a while as well. He did feel exhausted, he was sure, he was going to fall asleep the second his head hit the pillow. For a moment, he even considered going downstairs to get some work done, but scraped the idea just as quickly. Then he heard barely audible footsteps. He knew that Mick and John had turned in already some time ago, so it only left Stevie. He felt bad that she wasn't able to sleep either. However, he no longer felt that way, when there was a soft knock on his door. The house was in complete darkness, but when the door opened, he knew, it was her.
"Are you asleep?" Stevie whispered.
"No." Lindsey replied and no other question came, when he barely made out her figure moving towards him. He held the covers up and she climbed in to lie beside him.
They lay together in silence, Lindsey didn't question Stevie and there really was no need to. This was simply how their relationship, or whatever they had between them, worked. However, she didn't move over closer to him and he wondered if he was allowed to touch her. Deciding to take his chance, Lindsey placed his hand on her hip and shifted closer. He instantly felt relieved, when Stevie backed herself into him and reached for his hand, she laced their fingers together and held their clasped hands against her chest, wrapping his arm around her at the same time.
It felt nice and Lindsey didn't want to do anything to ruin the moment, but he also couldn't help the stirring below his waist, caused by the feeling of her body molded into his, her scent intoxicating him way more than the alcohol had done.
