In this world, your eyes are plagued by shades of white, grey and black until you find the one who you can call your soulmate. Some people find them almost instantly, such as a childhood friend or a passerby; some find them in their early adolescence, while the rest... they don't.
It was rare that someone would go their whole life without discovering their soulmate, but unfortunately it was the case for the minority of people who were just unlucky.

(Y/N) was just gone eighteen and was the only one of her friends that hadn't found her soulmate yet. It hurt, watching all her friends experienced the romance she so deeply craved. She had began to believe that she was one of the hopeless, the ones who live their life in black and white without a spot of colour. She sighed as she stared out of the window, wondering what it felt like to see in colour.

Nagito Komaeda had reached the age of eighteen last year and was coming up to his nineteenth, chuckling to himself as another year of seeing black and white passed. He tried not to let it show that it bothered him, maintaining his positive demeanour but deep down, all he wanted was to be loved by someone.
"Komaeda." His friend called, his attention turning to Hajime. "Does it ever bother you that you can't see colour?"
"Hajime, you shouldn't ask those sort of questions. I think." His soulmate, Chiaki scolded.
"Ah, sorry, you don't have to answer if you don't want. I'm just curious." Hajime smiled awkwardly.
"It doesn't bother me at all. I'm not surprised, it's pretty much guaranteed that a useless piece of trash like me would die alone." Nagito smiled as he spoke. "I'm happy enough to just see my friends find their hope."
Hajime frowned slightly at this; was Nagito always this harsh on himself?

"(Y/N)! Come on, it's time to go." Her guardian called, waking her from her trance.
She sighed, getting up and heading down the stairs to put on her shoes and get ready to leave. Today was her cousin's birthday, and he had decided to hold a party for it. She was quite friendly with her cousin, so naturally she had got invited. She didn't get to see him much, so she was somewhat excited to see him again. Getting into the car, she plugged in her earbuds and watched the world pass by, longing for the beauty of colour.

"Nagito! I'm so glad you could make it." Hajime grinned, welcoming his friend.
"You're my only friends. Of course I would have time for you. Especially on your birthday." Nagito smiled, but it seemed somewhat forced. "I'm glad I can be of some use to you."
"Ahh shut it, Komaeda." Hajime playfully rolled his eyes. "Come on, the rest will be showing up soon."
So Nagito entered the venue for Hajime's party, wandering over to sit among his classmates.

"We're here!" Her guardian announced, pulling out one of her earbuds.
She grimaced slightly at the intrusion but soon put away her phone, getting out of the car and eyeing up their destination. It was a rather sizeable venue, and was decorated well on the outside. She didn't realise Hajime was so flashy. Tailing behind her guardian, she entered the building where music was blasting and people were enjoying themselves. Her guardian instantly went to greet Hajime's family, leaving (Y/N) standing alone.
"(Y/N)!" She heard the voice of her cousin, turning to see him with his soulmate.
"Hajime! And this is Chiaki, right?" (Y/N) greeted, Hajime nodding. "It's so nice to meet you."
"You too... I think." She smiled softly, but seemed quite unsure of herself.
(Y/N) just held her smile in response, a bit confused by what she meant by 'I think'.
"Come sit with us, I'll introduce you to my friends. I'm sure you'll get on great." Hajime suggested.
(Y/N) nervously agreed, following behind Hajime as he led her to his table and sat down, patting the space next to him.
"This is my cousin, (Y/N). You guys better be nice to her, alright?" Hajime warned, the others laughing.
"Or what? You gonna use that ahoge against us?" One joked.
"Yeah, so you better watch out." Hajime teased.
"Ibuki wants to go first! Ibuki is happy to meet you!" Ibuki yelled, a grin on her face.
"H-hello, my n-name is M-mikan." Mikan stuttered.
"Excuse that skank! I am Hiyoko." A girl with blond pigtails sneered, Mikan yelping in response.
"Don't mind her, I'm Mahiru Koizumi." A redhead spoke.
"They call me NEKOMARU NIDAI!!" The burly man introduced.
"Akane Owari. Nice to meetcha'" A girl with brown hair greeted.
"Sonia Nevermind! It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." She smiled.
"I am Gundham Tanaka! Behold my utmost power, mortal!" A few hamsters emerged from his scarf.
"I'm Kazuichi Soda! But you can just call me Soda." He said with a wink and a thumbs up.
"Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu." The small male bluntly introduced.
"I am called Peko, Peko Pekoyama. I hope that we can be good friends." A sophisticated woman amicably spoke.
"And this sexy hunk of meat is none other than Teruteru Hanamura!" He boasted with a wink.
"Disgusting, as always." A boy sighed. "I am known as Impostor, but you can call me Byakuya."
"It's nice to meet you all." (Y/N) timidly smiled, feeling quite nervous in front of all these new people.
"Ah, where's Nagito?" Hajime asked.
"Oh, he said he had to go do summin, I think he's outside." Akane shrugged, picking at her ear.
"Ah right, well I'm gonna go introduce the two. I'll be back now." Hajime explained, motioning for (Y/N) to follow him.
"Ah, there's no need to be in such a rush. I can wait." (Y/N) argued, feeling a bit overwhelmed from the social interaction.
"Trust me, I've been wanting to have you two meet for ages. I think you'll get on really well." Hajime pushed, now holding (Y/N)'s wrist as he dragged her outside. "He's a bit odd, but he has a kind heart. Like you!"
"Thanks, Hajime..." she grumbled, reluctantly following the ahoge boy.
He led her outside, to which she saw a tall male with light hair leaning on the wall, seemingly lost in thought. (Y/N) kept her head down; ffs Hajime you know I'm not the best around new people.
"Komaeda! So this is where you wandered off to. I hope you're not trying to skip my party!" Hajime chuckled, stopping in front of the boy. "This is my cousin, (Y/N), I have a feeling you two would get on great."
(Y/N) blushed awkwardly, averting her gaze to the floor. Man he was attractive.
"Ah don't be shy, lil cus, he's harmless!" Hajime smiled reassuringly before whispering under his breath. "Uhhh, maybe not entirely..."
"Haha, Hajime, no need to lie. She should know me for the worthless scum I am." Nagito laughed, waving off Hajime.
Hajime made an 'uh oh' face, Nagito looking at him quizzically before the girl next to him started yelling.
"No! You are not worthless scum! Don't be so harsh on yourself! Everyone is worthy, no matter what!" (Y/N) grabbed his hands and stared him straight in the eyes. "I know how you feel... I'm the same, my self-esteem is practically nonexistent but you! You deserve better than to be so cruel to yourself. You seem very nice and you have very pretty green eye-"
She stopped, her mind going blank. Green?! Now that she was aware, she noticed that her surroundings were much more vibrant. He had mysterious green eyes, white hair with pink tints and a pale complexion.
"Oh?" He let out, looking surprised himself.
"Hehe, I knew it. Have fun you two!" Hajime giggled like a child, rushing off into the arena.
"I never thought there was actually someone out there for me... especially someone so good looking..." (Y/N) mumbled to herself.
"I was thinking the exact same thing." Nagito responded. "Guess you're stuck with me now then. I'm terribly sorry."
"No! Don't be. I'm happy it's you. I know I don't know you very well, but I trust Hajime. He wouldn't have done this if he thought it wouldn't be good." (Y/N) argued. "So let's start from square one. Hello, it's nice to meet you. I'm (Y/N) (L/N)."
"Hi, (Y/N). It's lovely to meet you too, my name is Nagito Komaeda."
