You don't know how and you don't know why, but a sudden shift in the one peaceful atmosphere of Hope's Peak Academy appeared when the new 78th class joined the curriculum. Disappearances, deaths, rumours... it was completely out of the norm even for such an eccentric institution. And it seems your gut feeling was right. Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Fashonista turned out to be Ultimate Despair and slowly started dragging the world down with her into a seemingly endless despair.
You remember being led to her hideout, screens plastered around the room as you were forced to watch the death of your beloved classmate, Chiaki. However, unlike the others, it didn't have the desired effect. Yes, you were upset, but your own determination and strife for a better future prevented the brainwash from working and thus, you were the one anomaly in the class of 77-B."Uh, guys? What are you doing?!" (Y/N) exclaimed, tears streaming down her smiling friend's faces.
"Oh the despair! Doesn't it just feel wonderful? Can you imagine the bright hope that will be born from this utter despair?" Nagito laughed, snatching (Y/N)'s attention.
"Nagi, babe, what are you talking about? You hate despair!" They argued.
A shudder flew down their spine when Nagito's eerie gaze landed on them. His eyes were pools of despair, swirling with pure agony and hopelessness. It was like nothing (Y/N) had ever seen before.
"Oh? What do we have here?" He grinned, leaning down to whisper in their ear. "I think you'd better run before the others notice you haven't given into despair... imagine how horrible that would be, tearing apart their own friend~"
"Nagi?! What the fuck? Snap out of it!" (Y/N) argued. "Please, I love you! We can get through this."
"What if I don't love you?"
Time froze, the world stopped and (Y/N) almost died right there on the spot at his words, their eyes widening and breath hitching.
"Hehe, the despair on your face almost makes me sick, it's wonderful!" Nagito giggled. "Now scamper off, (Y/N), or I might just kill you myself..."
(Y/N) couldn't deny the rush of despair they felt as Nagito said such cruel words, but they wouldn't let it faze them. He was brainwashed, right? This wasn't the Nagito that (Y/N) grew to love... that bitch, Junko, had done something to alienate her friends. And unlike the rest of them, instead of fuelling their despair it only fuelled their hope, their spirit to fight back.
"Oops, guess I spoke too much... hehe run, run my little hope~" Nagito snickered, and it was then that they noticed the rest of the class were staring in their direction.
And they looked ready to kill.
"Please do not fret (Y/N)! This is for the greater good!" Sonia chimed, bringing her palm forward.
(Y/N) spun around and began to run. Akane rushed forward and grabbed their ankle, causing them to trip and fall to the floor. But even with bruised knees and bleeding hands, (Y/N) got right back up and pushed forward. The shouts and echoes of their classmates boomed through the halls while they ran, ran until they finally saw the light of day.Over the next few days, (Y/N) stayed in hiding while the rest of Hope's Peak Academy fell along with the society we live in. The skies turned vermillion, stained with blood and people rioted and murdered in cold blood. Monokuma became a symbol for despair, people beginning to worship the idea of such a feeling. The class of 77-B worked as Ultimate Despair to spread the cruelty among the population, colouring the hearts of humanity in black. Junko controlled the first killing game, forcing her own classmates into a cruel game of life and death. It seemed hopeless, the world seemed lost but (Y/N) didn't give up hope. If there was one thing they would never do, it was to give up hope. Their boyfriend, well ex now, may have been crazy but he did leave an imprint in their mentality. (Y/N) just wouldn't take it as far as him. And as they sat in the remains of a rubbled building, his old home, they reminisced on the times when things were not so gloomy. Opening up the pictures app on their phone, they smiled and scrolled through the numerous pictures they had taken with him by their side.
DATE: (YOUR BIRTHDAY/2019)
"Happy birthday, my little hope~" Nagito whispered, leaning forward to kiss you on the forehead.
You had only just woken up, still tangled up in the bedsheets with Nagito towering over you, light over his head like an angel's halo. He held a tray, your favourite breakfast sitting on top.
"Mmh, Nagi, you shouldn't have..." you bashfully responded, sitting upright. "Thank you."
"I wanted to. Now, eat up. I have plenty planned for this day." He grinned.
