slight warning as this contains talk of mania, basically Nagito having a sort of breakdown plus mention of blood.

(Y/N) yawned as she entered the classroom, giving a small wave to her classmates before scanning the room in search of her boyfriend. She was a little disappointed when she saw his desk empty, finding it unusual for him to be later than her but just assumed he was running behind. Plopping down at her desk, she pulled out her supplies and prepared herself for class, eyes glued to the door waiting for the white-haired boy.
Miss Yukizome had long started the class yet there was no sign of Nagito. (Y/N) frowned to herself, hoping that he was okay. She doesn't remember him telling her he wasn't going to be present and he would've told her if he was missing class due to a last minute errand. She didn't want to seem clingy, she didn't want to control Nagito's life, it was just strange how he had missed class without a word. It wasn't like him to do so. She drummed her fingers on her desk, eagerly awaiting for the day to end with her eyes now focused on the clock. It wasn't until she heard a buzz in her pocket that she was pulled from her trance, pulling the device out of her pocket to check the notification. Her heart stopped when she read over the message, throat running dry and her eyes widened.

A hard fall has been detected. The user has declined emergency services. You're receiving this message as you are listed as an emergency contact.

"I have to go." She blurted out, grabbing her stuff hastily and running out of the classroom, leaving her classmates and teacher flabbergasted.
(Y/N) sped down the hallways, rushing out of the building and through the school gates as she ran towards Nagito's home. That was the location given from the text she had received. She panicked immensely, pushing her body past its limits to get to Nagito as quick as she possibly could. Her heart was pounding, breath heavy and limbs aching but she powered on, eventually arriving at the boy's home. He lived alone, so no one would be there to help him if he was hurt. She ran to the front door, finding it was locked before pulling out a spare key he had trusted her with. She burst through the door, throwing her bag to the side and felt her heart drop at the sounds she could hear.
Crashing, banging, yelling, laughing.
(Y/N) immediately clocked on what was happening. She could feel it, she could feel his emotions with her own
Mania, hurt, fear, trauma... the list went on.
She concluded that the text had come from him dropping his phone in his frenzy, hence why the services had been declined. (Y/N) sped up the staircase, heading straight in the direction of the noises. She found Nagito in his bedroom, curled up on the floor and mumbling nonsense to himself with the occasional giggle. His entire room was disheveled, as if he had been fighting in there. She could see spots of blood scattered along the floor, a wound open on the side of his arm. She rushed down to kneel by him, trying to calm him down.
"Nagito, hey... Nagito can you hear me?" She spoke softly, not wanting to trigger him.
"What... what... where am I? The plane... Am I dead? It was all my fault, you know... you should run..." He seemed to ignore (Y/N)'s words, continuing to mumble to himself. "I'm just scum, worthless scum, trash, undeserving, a freak."
"Nagito... I need you to look at me." (Y/N) tried to grab his attention, his eyes swirling with insanity as he fixated on a singular point, seemingly unresponsive.
"I did it. I killed them. I did it. I did it. I did it. I did it." He kept repeating the same thing over and over. "There is no hope for me. No hope. No hope. No hope."
"Nagito!" (Y/N) shouted.
She wasn't planning on having to raise her voice, but it seemed it worked as his eyes shot up to face her. He looked terrified and it broke her heart.
"Nagito... I'm here okay? It's me, (Y/N). I'm right here." She cooed, reaching out to stroke the top of his head.
"Where are we? What's happening? I'm so confused..." Nagito spoke with a tremble in his voice. "Didn't I...?"
He trailed off, (Y/N) could see that she was losing him again.
"Nagito, stay with me, okay?" She clutched one of his hands in hers while her other hand tended to his soft locks, carefully brushing through them.
"No matter how big the despair... hope will always win in the end. Isn't that right, (Y/N)?" Nagito spoke, his eyes still a crude mix of hope and despair.
He was still in his funk, she could tell. His words were nonsense with no relation after each sentence. It was like they were in two different conversations. But she knew how to deal with it and understood that he couldn't help it. The fact that he had recognised her presence was good progress.
"Yes, Nagito. Hope is a wonderful thing." She agreed, trying to keep his attention. "You know what helps me feel hopeful?"
He looked up at her with those crazy eyes, a wide grin on his face as a giggle slipped from his lips.
"What? What makes you feel hope, (Y/N)? I want to know." His breath got more ragged, his body trembling.
"Hey... calm down, Nagi..." She soothed, lowering herself so she was face to face with him. "Hugs. Hugs make me feel hope. Can you give me a hug?"
Nagito nodded enthusiastically, sitting upright to envelope her in a tight hug with a strong grip as his body shuddered.
"Yes! Anything for the sake of hope... do you feel it? The hope? Ahhhahah~" He rambled, his grip desperate.
She could tell by his conformity that he was coming closer to his normal self, the fact that he was understanding her words also confirmed this. She had wanted to hug him to help him ground himself, not for the sake of hope but she knew it would've encouraged him to reciprocate the hug. (Y/N) wrapped her arms around his torso, now rubbing soft circles on his back as she began to whisper in his ear.
"Nagito... I know how you feeling right now. The despair that's clawing at your heart..."
"No.... nononono, no despair!" Nagito cried. "It hurts! It hurts it hurts it hurts ithurtsithurtsithurts-!"
(Y/N) gripped on tighter, knowing that this was going to be extremely difficult but kept her composure nonetheless.
"Nagito... listen to me. It's okay, you're safe, you're with me, we're in your home. You're okay, it's gonna be okay. I need you to breathe for me okay? Can you follow my breaths? Can you do that for me?" She spoke gently to him, beginning to do deep breaths.
She felt relieved when he began following her pattern, their breathing in sync while her hand continued to rub circles on his back with the other made its way into his hair. She knew he loved having his hair played with.
"That's it... there we go. In... out.... you've got this." She repeated these words until his breathing got steadier. "Nagito... I need you to come back to me."
The figure in her arms shook, but instead of it being due to his rambles, it was due to him cracking as he returned to his usual self with tears beginning to fall from his eyes.
"(Y/N)... I'm so sorry that you had to see me like this. Trash like me... like this. You must be disgusted." Nagito cried, but his grip was still tight on her body.
"No, that's not true. Nagito, it's okay. You can't help it. You know I'm here for you, always. No matter what. I'm just glad you're back to your normal self now." (Y/N) cooed, gently reassuring him. "It's okay to cry, Nagi. Let it all out."
Upon her words, his tears became more frantic as he broke down on her shoulder, sobbing while clutching desperately onto her body. She didn't mind, just whispering words of reassurance and patting his back and head until he was finished. She hummed slightly, humming their song to help him relax. Soon, his sobs reduced down into snivels now and again as his grip relaxed on her body, pulling back so they were face-to-face.
"Hey, handsome." (Y/N) whispered, giving him a gentle smile. "You're gonna be okay, alright? I'm not going anywhere."
She lightly kissed the tip of his nose, caressing his cheek as he melted into her touch.
"Let's get you cleaned up, okay?" (Y/N) told him, referring to his cut arm.
"No... a symbol of hope like yourself shouldn't burden yourself with helping scum like me." Nagito argued with a sad smile.
"Nagi... you're my boyfriend. We're equals. You're just as deserving as everyone else. Whether you like it or not, I'm going to help you." (Y/N) told him firmly but spoke in a gentle tone to not upset him.
"(Y/N)... my little hope~" He gushed, placing his forehead on hers with his eyes closed.
"Come on, I don't want that getting infected." (Y/N) beckoned as she helped him get to his feet, travelling to the bathroom.
He sat down on the toilet as (Y/N) gathered the necessary medical supplies, disinfecting the wound before wrapping it in bandages.
"How did you do this anyway...?" She asked, carefully wrapping it.
"I don't remember... everything was just a blur." Nagito answered honestly. "I'm sorry, if I worried you. I was getting ready for school when all of a sudden, I just..."
"Nagito, it's okay. I understand. I'm just glad you're safe now. Don't apologise. You would do the same for me right?" (Y/N) reassured, finishing up the bandaging.
"(Y/N). Can we cuddle?" Nagito requested, feeling ashamed for giving into his selfish desires. "I know I don't deserve it, trash like-!"
"No, enough of that. You do deserve it. You're not trash, Nagito. You're amazing, you mean the world to me. Of course we can cuddle." (Y/N) looked him straight in the eyes as she spoke, making sure he listened to her every word. "I don't care how long it takes; I will destroy that degrading nature of yours."
Nagito let out a soft chuckle at her determination, a small smile now making its way onto his lips. They headed back to his bedroom, deciding they should probably clean it up first before they actually settled down so they worked together to do so (you doing the majority as you didn't want Nagito to overexert himself anymore.)
By the time they had finished, it was quite late in the evening. (Y/N) flopped on the bed while Nagito crawled up to her side, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his head on her chest. He usually did this when he needed comforting, other times he was normally the big spoon. (Y/N) gently brushed through his white tassels, paying special attention to his scalp and embracing him with her other arm.
"Nagito." She called, him looking up at her in response.
She gently kissed him on the lips, smiling in the interaction and parting slowly. She gazed at him with adoration, giving him a forehead kiss before returning to stroking his hair.
"Thank you... I love you so much." Nagito mumbled, feeling quite tired.
"I love you too, Nagito." She whispered back, watching as he fell into a deep slumber.
