It's been a long time

Chapter 12

It's the next morning....

Madelines Pov: 

I wake up to get ready for school and take a shower, put on my uniform and a hoodie to not show my recent cuts and then I go downstairs. Mark and mom were there kissing I wanted to avoid being with them because I didn't want to talk to anyone. Mom noticed me standing on the stairs and pulled away from Mark. "Um good morning Maddie" Mom said. "Mornin Mads" Mark said. "Um hey" I said walking down the rest of the steps. "Are you gonna eat breakfast" Mom asked. "No I'm not hungry right now... I'm gonna walk to school" I said. "You sure we can take you" Mark said. "No its ok I want to walk" I said. "Ok have a good day at school" Mark said. "Have a good day at work or at home" I said walking out of the house.

I walked to school and when I went in I saw Nick I told him I would call him if I felt like relapsing but I didn't and it felt like I had failed him. I was trying to avoid Nick until he came behind me. "Hey were you not gonna say hi" Nick asked. "Oh hi sorry I didn't see you" I lied. "It's super hot why are you wearing a hoodie" Nick asks. "Because I want to" I lied again I was dying of heat in it. "Are you ok you seem I don't know weird" Nick said. "I'm fine" I said. "Maddie what's wrong" Nick asked. "Nothing leave me alone" I said walking away. I felt like a failure like I was never going to get better but then Nick came back. "Maddie if you think I'm just going to let you walk away you're dumb" Nick said sitting next to me. "Can you leave, I said leave me alone" I said. "No I can't because I know something is wrong and I want to help" Nick said. "Well you're not so stop and leave" I said. "No tell me what's wrong" Nick begged. "No stop I don't have to tell you anything" I said. "I'll get Sofia and I'm pretty sure she'll call your dad" Nick said. "Don't say a word to Sofia she'll tell him or my mom" I said. "Maddie what did you do" Nick asked. "Um nothing gotta get to class" I said standing up then Nick grabbed her wrist and she flinched. "Nick let go of me" I said. "Maddie did you" Nick asked. I stayed silent. "Maddie why didn't you call" Nick asked. "I couldn't everything just didn't make sense at the time" I said. Nick pulled me into a hug. "You're mad at me aren't you" I asked quietly. "No why would I it happens" Nick says as I  pull out of the hug. "You're not" I ask. "Of course not relapses happen and it doesn't mean you're never gonna get better" Nick says. "This is why you're my best friend" I said. "Well I have to go to class see you later" I added.

Back at the hospital

Lexies Pov:

I just got done with rounds and was heading to check on Hailey. I saw Hailey watching something on the tv while eating and went in. "Hi Hailey" I say sitting next to her. "Hi Lexie" Hailey said. "What are you watching" I ask. "Doc Mcstuffins" Hailey said as Jo walked into the room. "Jo can I talk to you outside" I ask. "Yeah sure" Jo says as she goes outside with me. "How did the surgery go. Was there any complications" I ask. "No everything went well we are calling a social worker right now" Jo said. "Um I'll take care of her for now" I said forgetting about Mark and Maddie. "Wait for a few hours I have to ask them and all of that" I said. "By them you mean Maddie and Mark right" Jo asked. "Yeah" I said. "Good luck with that" Jo said leaving.

At school

Madelines Pov:

I had just gotten out of class and I was heading to where Mark picks me up then I bumped into someone. "Oh my god sorry" I said. "It's ok" The girl laughed it off. "Um I'm Madeline but people call me Maddie" I said. "I'm Rose" Rose said. "So my da- it's complicated is waiting for me talk tomorrow" I say. "Of course bye" Rose said.

I got into the car where Mark was just looking at me. "What" I said. "Nothing you just take long" Mark said. "Ok" I said biting her nails. "Stop biting your nails they have germs and its nasty" Mark said. "Sorry" I said he still doesn't know about Madelines anxiety which I've had since I was eight but I didn't want to tell him. "Your nail appointment is at 7:00 I'll take you later for now we're going home" Mark said. "Ok" I say.

We get home and go inside. I change into some sweatpants and a hoodie then go downstairs with papers. "Mark" I yell. "What" He yells back from the kitchen. I walk in to see him opening mail. "What's up" Mark asks. "Well I need a parent to sign this thing for my teachers and well your one of them so sign please" I said. "Pass me a pen" Mark said. I reached for a pen and my sleeve came up and Mark saw something red kinda puffy. "Maddie" Mark said. "What" I asked. "Your... wrists" Mark said. I stayed quiet thinking of something to say. "Did you recently cut" Mark asked. No response from me. I started crying "Sorry..... I'm really really sorry" I say sobbing. Mark pulled me into a hug "It's ok Maddie you're ok" Mark said as I wrap my arms around his torso. "Please don't tell mom I don't want to disappoint her or see her like that again" I beg."I won't don't worry" Mark said kissing me on the head. "I don't like seeing you like this so I want to know why you did it" Mark asked. "I saw my scars earlier and I felt the urge to relapse and it happened" I said taking out chunks of the reason why she did it. "I'm sorry Maddie I love you so much" Mark said. "I love you too dad" I said realizing what I just called him. "Oh shit sorry" I said blushing which made Mark laugh. "It's ok I like it better than Mark and do you ever stop cursing" Mark asked. "See I would say yes but I honestly don't" I said. "Stop cursing" Mark said. "Ok I'll try" I said. "Can you cancel the nail appointment I don't want to go anymore" I said. "Yeah" Mark said.
