Nothing interesting or worth documenting had ever happened to me, until the week Skailer King moved to town.
Not to say that my life lacked excitement, rather my life was nothing like my twin brother's who always either had a party to attend, a football game or some sort of social activity that no ever bothered to invite me to.
People were only nice to me even it had something to do with him. Girls, when he was single. Boys, when they were friends with him. Other than that I had no one which my parent tried to convince me wasn't a bad thing something which they failed horribly at.
My camera seemed to be the one thing in my life that made me happy and after a while I stopped caring and then the first day of senior year arrived and with it, a girl who would unknowingly changed my life forever.
"Thank you" I smiled, sinking into the passenger seat of the car as I slipped my vanilla flavoured iced coffee
"Your welcome" chuckled Caleb, glancing in my direction before returning his eyes onto the road
Admittedly Caleb was my only friend, but I summed that up to him being my brother because I'm pretty sure in another lifetime there is no way in hell that someone like him could be friends with someone like me.
Not that I'd ever say it out loud.
When we arrived at school Caleb headed straight to his friends who were hanging out in the parking lot while I made my way into the school.
"Hey Cassidy" said a familiar high pitched voice causing me to let out a sigh before turning on my heels to contact face-to-face with Lila Woods a.k.a the queen bee and oh yeah, my brother's ex girlfriend.
"Hey Lila" I mumbled meeting her hazel brown eyes
"How you doing?" she questioned, not giving me a chance to reply before speaking again, "You look cute today"
"Thanks I guess"
"Can you please give this note to your brother" said Lila holding out an enveloped letter
"Thought the whole note thing died out in middle school" I stated more to myself than anyone else, though it seemed to make her glare at me, "I'll give it to him"
"You're such a sweetheart" she smiled, "Well this was nice but I've got to go"
'What exactly about that was nice?' I asked myself watching as she sashayed away with her posse following in suite
Knowing Caleb he would only read the note after a week which is when his curiousity would get the best of him but he'd still attempt to stay true to his New Years resolution: 'staying away from Lila'.
I mean after what she put him through last year I wasn't surprised.
Photography was my first class of the day which also happened to my favourite class. I was usually the first in the class but for for the first time in forever, I wasn't. There was someone occupying the always empty corner seat in the back row of the class, her eyes fixed on her laptop while her headphones sat on her head.
The tried not to pay too much attention to her but new students were rare and in AP class even more so what was I missing.
Soon enough class started, no one seemingly noticing the presence of the new girl until Mr Sanders spoke.
"Sitting amongst us is one of the youngest photographers to ever have her own exhibit and be featured in the New York Times, also someone who will be attending our school until the end of senior year" announced Mr Sanders, everyone staring at each other in confusion, still ignoring the new girl's presence "Please give a warm welcome to Ms Skailer King"
The entire class applauded looking around for someone to stand as the sound of a laptop banging shut in the back, forced then to acknowledge her presence.
"You really didn't have to" she stated as Mr Sanders smiled
"Nonsense, it is an honour to have your spend your senior year here, with us" stated Mr Sanders, my mind racing
Skailer King was one of the most talked about photographers my age, I'd followed her life and somehow convinced my parents to let me buy one of my favourite portraits by her. No one knew much about her, mostly because she kept her life out of the media but still she amazing.
And now she was in my school, my literal role model now attend my school and all I could do was stare forward and try not to panic.
