How I managed to lose my brother again after finally taking to him was something neither my mother or my friends could understand since I couldn't tell them that Caleb was dating Skai again because it was feel like I was in some way betraying him.
We had taken four steps in the right direction and ten steps back in the wrong one and even though I wanted to support his decision, I just couldn't.
"Can somone please pass the salt" I said as everyone turned to Caleb was the closest to the salt
"Here" he mumbled, handing it to Ian who passed it to me
"Thank you" I said with a weak smile as his attention turned back to his phone
"You're welcome" he mumbled
"So you two going to talk about what's going on or you going to pretend like no one notices you two acting weird?" asked Alec as he pointed between the both of them
"It's nothing" I stated as they gave me looks, telling me they didn't believe anything I was saying at all
"I'm dating Skai, she's disappointed, I'm mad at her for judging me" said Caleb, his attention still on his phone, "You three have a problem with my life choices too?"
"No"
"Nah"
"Nope"
They all spoke spoke after each other, looking back down at their food.
"I don't have a problem with your life choices" I said as he looked up at me with a look of disbelief
"You're a worse liar than Alec and that's saying something" he stated
"Hey!"
"It's true, babe. You suck at lying" stated Ian as Alec let out a defeated sigh
"All I'm saying is you're going to get hurt" I said as he returned his attention to his phone
"I heard you the first twenty times, now please stop talking about my relationship and go back to silently judging me so I can move on with my life" stated Caleb as the table fell silent again
After everyone finished eating, we headed back home, well some of us did anyway. Caleb on the other hand said he had plans though I knew that just meant he was going to see Skai and he didn't want the hear what I had to say about it.
"You doing okay, over there?" questioned Jackson as I shrugged, looking forward at the road
"Just feel like Caleb and I took ten steps back from where we were. I mean me and him used to fight but this year it's like... things are so much worse" I said, dropping my face into my hands
"Caleb and you are twins, you two have always been close and you'll fix this. He just needs his sister to believe he knows what's his doing" stated Jackson, grabbing my hand with his free one
"Do you think he knows what he's doing?" I questioned as he shrugged, keeping his eyes on the road
"Caleb's my best friend, it doesn't matter what I think. It just matters that he's happy" he pointed out, "The reason you guys keep taking ten steps back is because you're scared you'll lose the one person who's had your back since you were kids but news flash, Caleb isn't going anywhere"
"Since when did you become the sensible one?"
"I've always been sensible, I just hang out with idiots" he shrugged as I smiled to myself
