Selene knew more than anyone the pain of losing.

But she wasn't born without conscience. Even if she rarely felt the pity towards those people who have sinned them, she can still feel the pinching guilt.

"My father left us when I was six and my mother abandoned us after she gave birth to Nicholais, my brother. We don't have any other relative, so I'm the only one that takes care of my brother." Selene hummed in understanding. For Selene, that's a tragic life for a girl, a woman like her. Her brother is a deadweight but he's her family.

"When Nicholais grew older to walk and speak, I tried to leave him at the nearest orphanage in our town. It was partly because I'm scared to raise him as it was difficult to even feed myself. And the other part of me genuinely want his life to be better. I was young, naive and penniless. I couldn't sustain his needs or even accompany him since I will need to leave everyday in order to make money." Madeline didn't initially want to bore her miss with her story. But remembering her hardships alone made her a tad sentimental.

"So I left him there for a year, in that short span of time, I managed to save some earnings to repair the house. And I can eat three times a day." Madeline snorted, then glance up chuckling as if she's thinking of something absurd.

"But I was wrong, more than wrong. I only felt more alone and sad without my brother to take care. And thus......I took him back and he didn't even know that I abandoned him. Nicholais still accepted me with open arms."

"You abandoned him." Selene said with an emotionless voice. "Yes I did Miss. He's the most important thing in my life now, he should be, I owe it to him."

Selene heard the sincerity in her voice, which prompted her to pry deeper.

"Do you love him?"

"Yes Miss." Madeline smiled contentedly. It made her look a glowing woman. And there are only two things that can make a woman glow in happiness. It's either because of a lover or a child.

"The would you die for him? Or rather kill for him?" Madeline appeared shocked at the question. But Selene find that reaction from him ridiculous. It's just yes or no. Is there any other answer to it?

The mistress and slave tandem inside the carriage basked in silence for a quite while after their conversation.

Selene neither smile nor laugh outwardly at Madeline's answer but on the inside, she slowly felt her missing peace of mind coming back.

She shouldn't worry about insignificant things. It is only right, a life for a life.

Even if she mustn't end it, she must get it with their bare hands.

"Ah! Lady Fasci you're a lot earlier than expected. Please sit, would you like anything?" Daniel Arslan, the temporary acting Duke of the dukedom Arslan, twin brother of Darius, hesitantly accommodated Selene into the drawing room.

Selene had finally arrived in Qana, she first went to the gravestone of her family in the royal tombstones then ventured towards the Arslan territory.

Selene stared blankly at the current duke's face. The pure white hair and the same dazzling blue eyes, it's the exact same face with the former Duke. His hair is just unruly and longer but everything just reminds Selene of the bastard. Selene inwardly admitted their blood carried their beauty.

Even the pig of a man Daniel with his contemptuous actions looked fairly handsome.

"Don't suck up to me Duke Arslan, the stench of your vileness is offending." Selene hated the man sitting opposite of her just with the same intensity as the man who personally killed her father.

"A-Apologies Lady Fasci, what can I do for you?" Daniel clenched his fist inside his pocket in anger, but the fear lingered inside his heart.

He cannot afford to offend any of the Fasci.

"Valetine will finally come in age in three months and you will hand everything to him in his ceremony." Selene stared at her peach colored nails, her servants personally extracted the juices and painstakingly painted her nails. She was busy admiring it that she missed the way that the man in front of her furrowed his slightly wrinkled skin on his forehead.

"I, of course I understand, I will prepare the papers right away." Daniel, nonetheless agreed and took the news with a smile. It wounded his pride to take orders from a mere Fasci, and not even from the Marquis himself.

"Then if you do understand Duke, stop whatever it is you're planning. We will tear you apart just like what your beloved twin did to my brother Neo. I can make it happen in your very own territory, so I suggest, no I'm commanding you to stop what you're doing." Selene's words brought an unmistakable effect on Daniel's countenance. His already white face paled even more so. The way his eye widened made Selene mockingly stared at him dead in the eye.

"Don't try to test me Duke, the minute you sold your family like a rat. Your life already belongs to the Fasci's. You're in this high position because of us, but we can all take it back. After all this agreement between us was made because it benefits both parties." Daniel wanted to bury himself on the ground. How did she know?

If she knew it means that Marquis Fasci also knows....

"So if one of us becomes a burden instead, the agreement will, therefore be nulled." Daniel felt the crazy beating of his heart, fully comprehending her venomous words.

"And like a domino effect, everything comes crashing down until it ends." Selene reveled at the fact that he's already this shaken.

"You know what it means when I say end right?" Daniel nodded somberly, the white strands of his hair shook gently as his head bobbed up and down.

"Answer me."

"Yes, I understand Lady Fasci."
