Nadia pouted her lips in disappointment.

She wanted to converse with the blue and hazel eyed guy! And see his face.

"Yes I'm alright." Nadia replied in a forlorn tone after sighing.

"Uh ar-" Just as the green-robed man wanted to check on her, Nadia ignored him ruthlessly. The fragrant smell enveloped the man just as she walked passed him, completely disregarding  his gaze. He can only watch in despair as the pretty lady's back grew farther and farther away.

"Princess Nadia, please we need to go now! Such occurrence like that was the warning for the inevitable dangerous accidents!" The personal attendant, Daina whisper-shouted towards the determined looking woman that she serves.

"Daina where did the guy who saved me go? I need to thank him!" While trudging down the short stairs, she urgently gazed everywhere.

"Your Highness please!"

"Why isn't he here anymore?" Finding her efforts to locate the man who saved her to be futile. Nadia sighed in exasperation, her tone was filled with grievance. Yet it was a pleasant sounding tone and not like a whine from an immature girl. It arouses the feelings of wanting to coax her.

"We can let the palace knights find him Your Highness. And have him awarded....for now we need to go. The Emperor still doesn't know that you've left! I-I'm afraid you'll be terribly punished if you're caught My Lady!" Daina doesn't have a choice but to say the word punish. The Princess can be stubborn when she wants to.

"Really? They'll find him?" Nadia stopped in her tracks. Considering her attendant's words. But then her eyes widened, as if she discovered something great. "No don't reward him. He shouldn't be poor if he managed to get an invitation in the auction! He must be an official or, or a noble!"

"Yes, yes Your Highness is so smart. That must be the case. Now please Princess, you must wear your hood now."

After the delay, Valentine quickly immersed himself with his mission. Fortunately, the target didn't immediately leave the building and was still in the inner courtyard of the auction house.

Catching up with the man, Valentine flicked his right hand. Making a thin, silver needle to appear between his forefinger and ring finger. Sneaking behind him, Valentine pricked the side of his neck. Alarming the man.

After feeling the stabbing pain on the side of his neck, he attempted to turn around but was grabbed by the mouth and dragged over backwards. He struggled to be freed and bit the hand that was holding him until it was bleeding profusely but didn't expect that the man wouldn't budge at all.

Just as he caught the sight of some patrolling guards in front of them, he gradually felt his eyesight blacking out.

Valentine covered the target's mouth and hid himself in the utmost corner where a few pine tree concealed them. He only let go when he felt the man's breathing relaxed.

He stared at his wounded hand in indifference, although the bite looked deep and hideous. It didn't hurt as much. Valentine only tore a cloth from the man's robe to tie it around his bloody hand.

Then proceeded to move without showing any sign of pain.

The few remaining days before the departure of Valentine for his coming-of-age quickly passed.

The night before he left, Selene and Valentine talked.

Valentine eagerly walked towards the enclosed door of the study room of his Lady Selene.

He knew that this will be the last time that he'll see her for a long time. The tension kept building up inside him, if he can just beg her to stay......he will.

But disobeying her left an acrid feeling deep within his gut.

"Ah you've arrived, little lamb."

Selene leaned on the windowframe overlooking the garden. On her hand, she held a goblet containing a crimson red liquid.

"As you've summoned me, Lady Selene." Valentine replied in a smooth, velvety voice. His gaze seemed to pierced right through her face. Not wanting to forget every little detail, keeping her lovely face inside his mind.

"Mmmm" Selene straightened up and didn't reply. Only putting the goblet down to fiddle something on the table.

After some time, her voice rang out. "Let's have a peaceful chat, shall we? Since my treasured little lamb has come to age, I'll give you something." Selene let out a bland smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.

Then in the next second, she tightened her grip and swiftly thrust the knife in front of his right eye, only an inch or two and it will be piercing his striking blue iris.

"Why didn't you blink?" Selene asked calmly, but even she can hear the surprise in her voice. A human instinct is to blink unconsciously whenever there are any movements directed towards it, it's a reflex. One cannot help but blink unknowingly, even a dust can made a person blink in reflex.

"Blink?"

"When I pointed the knife at you, you didn't blink or close your eyes." Selene cocked her head in confusion. The knife in her hand still suspended in the air.

"I'm sorry?" Valentine felt confused, did I anger Lady Selene?

"Do you know the very basic instinct of a human Valetine?"

The man in question nodded, of course it was survival.

"To survive"

"Yes and that requires protecting themselves, correct? That comes naturally just as well as blinking....but you didnt do the two most basic instincts. Why?" Selene was truly taken aback, she didn't think that the effect of the drug will be that potent. It even curb the human instincts.

"I don't know.....I, it's Lady Selene in front of me so I shouldn't worry about anything. And even if you do harm me, I'm sure you have a good reason for it. And if Lady Selene wants to kill me. Then I still wouldn't move, I'll give my life to my mistress. Whatever you want." Valentine solemnly vowed, his earnest eyes were burning with devotion.

As if he'd pluck his own eyes if she asked for it.

Selene gazed gobsmacked at him, her hand still pointing the knife at his eye. She couldn't believe what she's hearing, what she'd created. It's absurd! Yet so, so beautiful.
