He seemed startled, as if he had just seen a ghost. He breathed in and out, looking at her in utter shock. His eyes still remained wide, struck by what he was seeing.
Milo could tell that Elijah didn't expect her to show up. To her it seemed that he was surprised and very weirded out by her presence.
Jahseh stood in between the both of them, in the middle of all of this. He looked at Milo, and looked at Elijah. The expression on Milo's face differed a lot from the expression on Elijah's face.
To Jahseh, Milo appeared tired and over it all. Her eye bags were far more prominent then they previously had been, not much expression held on her face - complete poker face. Her expression was understandable, she had experienced a lot during this period of time.
Elijah to Jahseh appeared surprised, very shocked to see Milo. He stood there for a while, still eyeing her down.
Milo examined him slightly. To her, he appeared slightly healthier than he was when Milo left. His skin was more vibrant than it was previously, the tattoos on his face were more detailed than before. She noticed a new tattoo on his neck, but that wasn't something that she cared for too much.
Elijah clicked his knuckles, letting the both of them in. Milo's surroundings were triggering, everything in this small apartment brought her back and it scared her slightly. She dully looked around her, shaking her head softly looking down.
Milo sighed, leaning against the wall. "Wait here," Jahseh spoke, looking at her deeply. "We ain't gon be here for too long."
Milo slowly nodded, looking away. Jahseh entered the room with Elijah, glancing back at her before the door closed.
"How do you know Milo?" Elijah asked, walking to the corner of her room. Jahseh sat on the chair that was on the side, elbows on knees. "Long ass story, but to shorten it Polo her dad. He told me to bring him to her because her mother ran away with her."
Elijah nodded. "Did you end up doin it?" He questioned, putting medium sized clipped bags with white powder in them into a blue plastic bag. Jahseh nodded softly, standing up.
Jahseh knew to lie. As much as Elijah was his friend, he didn't feel as if he could trust him. They all worked for Polo, Elijah was more the type to snitch in order to get closer to what he wants. Polo's money.
Elijah handed Jahseh the bag, tightly gripping it. "'Preciate it." Jahseh said, reaching into his pocket and handing him some money.
Elijah excepted this money, reaching out and opening the door. Milo's eyes met his, she appeared relieved and this relaxed Jahseh.
Just knowing that they were closer to home than they were before made the both of them feel happier. "Ight, imma go. Preciate you bruh." Jahseh spoke, dapping Elijah up. "Yeah, stay safe." he responded.
The two of them made it to the door, opening it and making their way out. Milo felt Eljiah's glare, refusing to turn back and meet his haunting stare. She kept her head straight, not looking back.
The door behind her closed, and they began to walk through the apartment complex. "You okay?" Jahseh questioned. Milo nodded, rubbing her forehead. "What'd you go get?"
Jahseh shook his head, brushing through his dreads. "Some dope." Milo frowned, looking at him in confusion. "Dope? Why?" she asked.
"Because we gotta sell this shit. I got some niggas waitin on it, we need that extra cash."
Milo looked away. They made their way towards the car. Milo opened her door, and so did Jahseh. The both of them sat in the car, sitting there in silence before Jahseh decided to start the car.
Pulling out of the drive through, they began to make their way to their next destination. Even though Milo had no clue as to where they were going next, she was happy it was over.
Seeing Elijah was numbing. It almost felt as if it was the final straw for Milo, it felt as if everything was piling up and that was her tipping point. But she hasn't yet reacted, and that was what made her wonder what exactly this meant.
As her thoughts drifted, and the car ride continued she began to realise that what was keeping her calm was Jahseh's presence. Him being there was enough for her to realise that everything was going to fall into its rightful place eventually.
The things that she had witnessed were gutting, but this journey was really the only thing keeping her a float.
Even though putting her trust in Jahseh seemed scary, she didn't believe she had much to lose. Everything seemed pointless, so getting on with this thing is the only thing she felt like she could do.
As for Jahseh, his mind was set on one thing and that was getting Milo home. The guilt that he felt in doing this job was eating him alive. Now that Polo had been shot, Jahseh knew that he was in danger.
Keeping his head on a swivel was his best bet, but in doing that Milo needed to be gone. This was only so she wouldn't be in any danger because of his actions.
By looking at her he could see that she was extremely tired. By now, they were up the road, a little far away from Elijah's house and the rest of the chaos.
"You wanna eat?" Jahseh questioned, leaning forward to look at her. She softly nodded, looking out the window.
It was around 9:30 pm, and Jahseh pulled into a parking lot. IHOP Milo read. She lazily cracked a small close lipped smile.
Jahseh quickly found a parking space. The both of them sat in the car for a short moment, taking a break for a while.
"I really wanna go home." Milo spoke, voice breaking slightly. "I miss my mama so much, I don't wanna do this shit anymore."
Milo felt her eyes getting watery, putting her face in her hands and crying. Jahseh sat back and looked into the distance, trying to find the right words to say. In his mind, Jahseh had caused all of this.
He sighed. "We gon bring you back there soon Milo. Everything gon be straight."
