chapter twenty nine - science

After being on the bus for about 25 minutes it pulled up at the end of Maddie's road.
"Right guys. This is my street. We need to get off"
Maddie, Olive and James all grabbed their stuff to leave but Maddie noticed that Lynn wasn't getting her things together.
"You coming?"
"This isn't my stop. I'm the next one"
"Oh okay. Well do you wanna come to mine anyway?"
"You sure?"
"Yeah honest. My mum won't mind. The more the merrier" Maddie smiled at Lynn. Although she wasn't in their science group she didn't want her feeling left out. And it would always be nice to get to know her better.

The four stumbled off the bus and walked down the palm tree lined road.
"This is it" Maddie said, stopping at the house.
"Whatttt. This is your house?!" Olive asked in shock,
"How dude. How?" James asked laughing.
Lynn just stood there in shock. The house was stunning as well as big! Her house was less than half the size!
"Yeah" Maddie laughed awkwardly "this is it. cmon" Ushering the trio inside the gates.
They walked up the path and knocked on the door. Yes Maddie had keys, but could she be bothered to get them out her bag? No. She knew Scarlett would get annoyed but it was just so much easier. However, instead of Scarlett opening the door, Rose appeared at the door
"Hi Maddie." She said running up to Maddie and hugging her "I got sent home from school early today" she said with a mischievous grin. Maddie, slightly concerned at why, detached herself from the hug and introduced everyone.
"Did you? That's good I suppose....Anyway Rose these are my friends. Olive. James and Lynn. Guys this is my sister Rose."
"Hey"
"Hi"
"Hiya"
Still facing her friends, Maddie spun around when she heard Rose squeal "oh my god! You've got pink hair!! Maddie, she's got bubblegum hair!"
Maddie rolled her eyes and mouthed an apology to Lynn. "Yes she does doesn't she. Now please can you let us in"
She sighed in relief when she heard Scarlett approach the door.
"Rose Bud are you going to let the people in?"
"Sorry mummy" And with that Rose ran inside slightly embarrassed but still smiling.
"Please come in I apologise on behalf of both my daughters for not inviting you in"
"Hey!"
"I'm joking! But please do come in!"

Olive, James and Lynn all introduced themselves to Scarlett and made there way inside. They all were slightly shocked as they had just met Scarlett but they didn't make anything awkward. They just acted normally which is exactly how Maddie had wanted them to act. She hoped she'd stay with this friend group for a while. They were so chill and had the nicest vibe and atmosphere about them.
After interacting in brief conversation with Scarlett, Maddie shoved them towards her bedroom and shut the door tightly behind; not wanting Scarlett or Rose to start telling them an embarrassing story about her.
"Sorry about that guys. I didn't realise Rose would be here"
They all assured Maddie that it was all fine. Olive had siblings so she was used to it and Lynn just found it cute how Rose had loved her hair. However James hadn't really said anthing. He had just stood there looking confused.
"Your mum is Scarlett johansson?" He said quietly.
"Ummm yeah. Well adopted but yeah. Did you not know?" Maddie asked laughing.
Lynn who was now lying on the bed threw a cushion at his head. "Ahaha you idiot. They literally share a last name!" the girls laughed at his lack of brains and imitated his clueless face.
James still looked a bit baffled as Maddie gave them a quick tour of her room and they soon got to work. I mean, Olive, James and Maddie started working but Lynn just lay on the bed asking them random questions and distracting them.
At a few points through the evening they got fed up with her and would throw stuff at her or just shout at her to shut up.
Olive groaned in annoyance whilst trying to draw an active site for an enzyme. "I swear to god I don't want to hear one more thing about Shakespeare and his obsession with zodiac signs!"
This certain time, Olive's comment (which James and Maddie had laughed hard at) caused Lynn to crawl off the bed and go and climb into Maddies lap, resting her head on Maddie shoulder with a wounded puppy dog face before mischievously smirking and grabbing a pen to draw dicks all over their science poster.

When Lynn climbed into her lap (they were all sitting on the floor) Maddie's heart stopped. She could smell Lynn's perfume and her shampoo. She could feel her heart beat against hers. The pink hair tickled Maddie's face and she couldn't stop grinning. God. Maddie was falling for Lynn way to fast.

The peaceful thoughts were soon ruined by Olive and James shouting at Lynn. She really had drawn a massive dick in the middle of the poster. How were they going to explain that to the teacher? Obviously Lynn didn't mind though, she just manically laughed and smirked before announcing that she was leaving.
Leaving already? Maddie looked at the clock. Woah. They had been here three hours! They had got quite a lot of work done to be honest. A few more hours would be needed but they could do that at school. The four were all still laughing at how the teacher would react to the dick as they packed up. Maddie was so happy she had been placed in this manic group for science. What she thought would be a dreaded group project actually turned into a blossom of new friendships and fun.
Maddie walked them to front door and wished them well.
"Thank you so much for coming guys. I'll see you tomorrow!"
"Yep! See ya tomorrow"
Before she left, Lynn quickly hugged Maddie and whispered in her ear.
"We should do this again some time"
"For sure" maddie whispered back.
The trio all left and Maddie shut the door, turning around to see Scarlett smirking at her.

"What?"
"Nothing"
"Oh my god whatttt"
"Nothingggg, just the pink hair girl seemed nice" Scarlett sang as she walked back over to the kitchen to make dinner.
